Recall Of California

Thu Oct 16, 2003 1:49 pm

It's recall time! Be nice about this!

Air California/AirCal
PSA (Pacific Southwest)
Pacific Express
Southwest
Hughes
Reno Air
Alaska

Who would you vote/recall for and why?

My recall has to be PSA.This hurts me to say so,but some
bad choices were made in 80's that sealed their fate. For example,
the aircraft should have been the 737,even though they would
had to wait in line for it.But in the long run, they would have survived.
They moved away from the one model fleet concept like in the
seventies with the 727.

My vote then goes to Southwest who made some great business
choices at the expense of PSA/US Airways.

AirCal is second.

But Southwest and Alaska have, today, a large presence in California.

What are you asking?

I agree, I was trying to be in the spirit
of the recent vote and it backed fire.
Maybe it should be,vote for your
favorite California airline of all time.

In this case,PSA would have my vote.
The impact in customer service and
presence in California is awesome even
to this date.

Sorry about the confusion.

No need to be sorry at all.

My vote on that note goes to Hughes AirWest (nee Bonanza, Airwest, Pacific). PSA a very close second and AirCal 3rd. The rest will never, could never, achieve the level of service of those three.

I'd like to see Alaska get back into more intra-Cal markets. Currently, Alaska only flies SFO-PSP 2x daily, OAK-SNA 5x weekdays, and SFO-LAX once a day (connecting to Mexico). At various points in the mid-80s through early-90s, they flew SJC-BUR, SJC-ONT, SJC-LAX, SFO-LGB, OAK-LGB and SFO-SAN. However, I don't think they ever developed more than 3-4 flights daily on any of these routes.

I don't think Alaska mainline would make sense per se, but I could see Horizon CRJs flying a number of these routes. It was rumored that Horizon might start SFO-SAN service, but that was prior to the agreement to fly for F9. At least for the short-term, their a/c will be pressed into service on other routes.

I didn't think Alaska was known as a California airline. I know they serve a lot of cities there, but I always thought that it was Seattle's and Anchorage's airline. Or did I miss something?  Smile

Are we talking about Southwest Airlines or Southwest Airways?

Bring the smile back to California (PSA). It never should have left!
