B772 Or 773: Or How To Turn A Beauty Into A Dog

There is a thread about A340 vs. A330.

I thought its opportune to start such a discussion also about the 777 as the basic two versions have a very different aesthetic appearance to me.

The 777-200 is very pretty:

The 777-300 is a very odd-looking airplane that looks like some airplane-nerds photoshop-experiment unfortunally making it into reality. I´m looking forward to some nice pictures of this type at Mojave soon.

IMHO, the "me too" posters on here are very tiring. "Well there was a best 727 livery post, so I made the best A300 livery post." Why not act like adults in these forums, you need to be older than 13 to use them for a reason. Why not come up with an original topic instead of making one simply out of spite? You certainly don't give your post any validity when you state that is the reason for making it...

...and exactly like I said in 330/340 thread, to say which is nice and which is not you should look at a real aircraft, not a picture. I saw 773 only once, during Boeing tour, the Emirates one. A wonderful bird, while 772 is kinda "too fat". Still, it is all subjective, everybody is just to express his/her opinion, not to argue. But discussing a picture just say, "this one looks good on a photo, while that one looks strange".

As for "I´m looking forward to some nice pictures of this type at Mojave soon." - I wouldn't believe my eyes if I didn't see something like this in this thread...  Smile

Really? Well that is your opinion. I think the livery really goes well with the 777. Yes MSR did say they will dump them(which is sad) but they also kept saying they will dump their 747s from like 6-7 years ago.

Now back to your topic...I've seen a picture in here once of an Emirate 777-300 and it kinda of looked like it was about to split in half.I get that feeling to when I see pictures of the A346 could that be a problem may be at the future?

Call me crazy, but I think the extra length of the 777-300 and A340-600 makes those aircraft look very cool. But then again, I like the MD-80, 727-200 and DC-8-60 series for much the same reason.

Length is good!

The 772/773 are not only stunningly gorgeous, but they actually resemble each other more than the A343/A346 that this clueless thread starter adores so much  Big grin


Also, MS's birds are a thing of beauty... nothing badlooking about them.

Neither 777's are particularly attractive - both just look like 767's fed on junk food for a few years !!

The 767 now - thats a great looking aircraft !!

Would Claudia Schiffer still of been a super model if she weighed 350lbs?  Wink/being sarcastic

If that's true, what do you say about the A340-600, which looks disproportionately even longer thanks to its' slimmer cross-section. I actually prefer the 777-300 over the -200, that extra length to me gives it extra grace. I see the -200 as a tad chunky, though still pleasing. Ironically, of the 2 competing families, I prefer the shorter Airbus (A340-500) and the longer Boeing (777-300), due to proportional differences from their cross-sections. And I don't expect to see this type at Mojave very soon, way too early for them to be retired (the first of them entered service in 1998)!

Ohh definately the 777 , 330 and 340-500/600 are beautiful birds to watch out for ? 767 ? They are cute but I dont really like them .

I don't know about anyone else, but I think the triple 7 is just an awesome aircraft. I like it much more than the 767. The 767 looks like a fat kid with tiny feet. (the gear doesn't look right)

I personally feel that the 777's looks are the ulimate in boring. Totally circular tube with two wings, a normal tail, and two wing mounted engines. I mean, how can you get any more generic than that?

On a completely different note...who the hell cares what an airplane looks like? I mean, it's function is to transport passengers from point A to point B as efficiently and safely as possible. Boeing and Airbus are not spending millions of dollars purely to design a piece of external "eye candy". Think about it seriously guys, a manufacturer will build an airplane, and an airline will buy it because it meets performance and operational requirements. Simple.
One doesn't discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time

Of course performance is THE major deciding factor when an airline is purchasing an aircraft. But for the aviation enthusiast, there is much more to aircraft than functionality. The average person may care less about what an airplane looks like, but we do care!

I think CRJmx hit the nail right on the head with his words. Sure Boeing and Airbus and whoever aren't designing planes for looks, and granted most people don't particularly care, but I know I do.

Now back to the original topic...

I like both of the 777 variants. But the -200 has to be my favorite. And for the A340, I prefer the -600.  Big thumbs up

I was lucky enough to see an Emerites 777-300 coming into land during the Boeing tour I was on. IMHO, it's a great looking plane. Every plane is nice to someone, and that's OK. I'd like to see AC with a 777-200 or 300, but they're going to be all Airbus soon  Sad Oh well. Thankfully, I live in SF and get to see lots of 772's. Can't wait til the first 773 comes in to touchdown on 28R!
