Why does United have only one flight between Tucson and Phoenix? Why do they serve the route at all?

Used to be they were intermediate stops on the flights from DEN. DEN-TUS-PHX-DEN, and vice-versa. It could be that TUS alone did not support mainline flights from DEN, but adding the PHX passengers made it economical.

Oh how I long for the day when the skies were truly Friendly!

The TUS-PHX is a tag onto the IAD-PHX flight, been that way since day one of the Dulles service too.

Delta has/had a TUS-PHX leg on one of its PHX-ATL flights. I think it still exists even though DL now has 2 daily Atlanta flights.

Denver has always been a nonstop market for Tucson... I am not sure that it was even a Shuttle market (unlike DEN-PHX). But it was one of the last markets that UA ran the 727 on.

I was told (though not sure if it's true or not) that UA has the TUS-PHX flight because they do not have enough room in PHX to park the they send it to TUS. The flight is never full going up...and they often have it weight restricted because they fuel it in TUS to go to IAD (apparantly to save money on fuel). We use them as a back up if one of our Mesa/Freedom flights runs late, to get pax to PHX to make HP connections.

DL does not have the PHX flight anymore since they put in the nonstops to ATL...they used a 757.
Catch a ride on a smile!
