It's gone!  Crying Was it G-BOAG that went from JFK? I didn't see it well enough.

I'm really really sad to see it go. But SkyNews still keeps saying that BA ARE keeping one operational for airshows and fly-bys.

Just saw the live take off.....looks like it was indeed G-BOAG, at least the reporter said it was Alpha Golf.

I'm doing BA002 in flightsim simultaneously to the real one... Big grin

Too bad you missed the take-off but its ok cause theres live footage of the arrival at LHR just after 15:30 GMT, and that goes for the other two Concorde arrivals.

I know theres rumours of keeping one Concorde alive and kicking so lets hope Sky News have got it right. If so which Concorde would be kept flying, is there any preference i.e. keep the one with least flying time, or 'AC' cos its got its airlines old name??

lmao @ airdolomiti, thats the kind of thing only us type of people would do.

I watched AE on finals at Edinburgh from my desk at about noon. "One last time, cleared to land"... almost brought a tear to my eye!

I think it is 1530 UK Summertime not GMT. That was great footage of Concorde taking off from 31L JFK, a sight which will be missed but cherished.

I just saw it on the Today show as well, it was the one that set the speed record of just under 3 hours between LHR and JFK a couple of years ago. They gave some interesting facts on the Today show about Concorde and the one that I do remember is Joan Collins was on board - I guess she was banned back in the 90's from flying BA! Also mentioned someone who was fined for lighting up a smoke in the restroom, nervous because of turbulence. Looked like a crowd showed up to see her off.

Looking forward to some pics

I didn't miss the takeoff. I just didn't catch the reg that's all. I can't wait until they all land one after the other at LHR. What a sight it will be.

Jeremy Clarkson made me laugh - he said:

i was playing a game, paused it for a min, flipped through the channels, changing at around half a second per channel, a familiar white arrow shape caught my eye, It was bueatiful. I have never seen the concorde in person. I was amaze at how fast it pulled off the ground from its start.
I was supposed to see the concorde land here in Cleveland in August 2000. A concorde crashed in paris. Never saw it.
I will go the the New York museum that will have a concorde around the holidays.

I saw CNN's live coverage of the takeoff about an hour ago. It's a beautiful autumn morning in NY so I guess there will be many great photos in the database.

All 3 aircraft will land at LHR around 16:00 (one after the other). They will then go round to the BA hangar where the other 2 air-worthy Concordes are parked. The celebration then begins.

AP Story says the following regarding the retirement:

Despite the glamor and social cachet attributed to the plane, which resembles a giant eagle poised to pounce on prey, it was a financial dud. With fares of more than $9,000 for a trans-Atlantic round trip — well above the first-class fare on a Boeing 747 — it remained a luxury for a wealthy few.

"Nobody will think about whether it was a commercial success or not," shipping company chairman Lord Sterling said before the flight. "They will say this is another frontier which the human race has broken through."

This and the lunar landing program represent two break-through milestones set 20 years (or more) ago, from which mankind is now pitifully retreating. I sure hope we can find a way to stretch beyond our limits and achieve things regardless of economic justification!
