I was wondering: Is he allowed to fly his 707 solo? I suppose not. So does he always have to get a co-pilot when he wants to go grocery shopping?

could you imagine having a 747 or even better a A380 for a private jet. You could have a bowling alley on the upper deck or remeve part of the upper deck and put a trampoline on the bottom. oh the possibilites would be endless.

Judging by the current occupants of his I guess you call it a driveway I highly doubt he would go for a Toulouse Toilet. If its going to be something bigger I think we can say with quite a bit of confidence Mr. Travolta would invest in another Boeing product. Any Idea where he buys fuel? I saw no mention of fuel being available on airnav. Even if that place did have fuel I doubt they would have as much jet fuel as he needs on hand. The 747 idea does sound good.. But why get something possibly quieter? It has to be a thrill to make all the neighbors hate you when you take off.. I have seen his 707 in person and judging by the ear shattering noise I doubt its hush kitted. I could be wrong though, most 707s were gone from the commercial world long before I was paying much attention to what was flying over.

A bit off the topic, but does anybody remember what happened to the Constellation JT was looking at? I believe this was before he purchased the B707.
As best as I can remeber, the Connie deal went sour, and he ended up buying the 707.

Anybody know the details?

Startvalve, I have seen his 707 at LAX many times too and yep it is extremely loud..but ist is stage-III hushkitted. It wouldn't be allowed into the airport if it were not. Even thought it is private, it still must comply. But a search on certain productionlist will show when it was converted.

I believe QUANTAS offered him a deal on one of their SP's during the publicity tour. I wonder if they would let him land a 744 in his backyard. I forgot he was certified on that one too!

I don't think he's earning those 'wings' with Qantas for brownie points and decking his jet out in the V-jet cs for the heck of it (it's a trade off of some sort)...I say a 747SP or 742 is on the horizon. An with that strip being 7000ft....not a problem.

I thought at one time he actually owned the MATS Connie....maybe I have it backwards though.

As for JT being able to fly the B707 single-pilot, not a chance. It would be VERY difficult if not completely practically impossible. I'm sure he's an excellent pilot but there are certain regulations that you can't fly an airplane of that size single-pilot even if it was easy. He can't even fly the G-IIB single-pilot.

I don't even think he's officially type-rated in the B707, unless he picked one up since the last time I looked up his license info on the FAA's website. I'm sure he could get one though Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Interesting side note, he's probably one of the very few pilots in the world who holds type ratings with only private priveleges...one of the lucky few that can afford to fly what he wants without having to fly for money Smile/happy/getting dizzy

This is a little off topic, someone mentioned having his wife Kelly work ATC -

I just saw "View from the Top," while not a great movie, it is the first one I think I have ever seen with Kelly Preston. That "Sierra Airlines" uniform really showed off her assets, and if I were straight, I would have to add that Mr. Travolta is lucky in many ways. What a busty girl!

Obviously we all know how much John Travolta loves to fly, whether it be from Jett Clipper Ella, his house or anything else. But, I think to him it means a little bit more. On E!'s "John Travolta Revealed" this afternoon, he was telling Brooke Burk about when he had a power loss near Washington, D.C. and had to make an emergency landing at DCA. I guess a few hours after the emergency landing, his family got back on a plane to Maine, stating that "Flying is just so much of our family's survival."

Do I love aviation, yeah. But I don't know if I need it to survive.

I agree that the Jumbolair website looks somewhat fake. Not the picture of the house, but the website. There are spelling mistakes, bad links, and very fake looking 'photos' of the runways. Can anyone confirm this Jumbolair community?

A couple years ago, John Travolta was slated to attend an ICAS convention in LAS; but didn't show...... it's rumoured he might show up this year in DFW - but then, there's always rumours before those conventions.

I knew someone was going to go after RB211 for misspelling Qantas lol...that seems to be the biggest pet peeve of many folks here...

Anyways Travolta is one lucky dude, what else can I say...that house is sweet...maybe we should get MTV Cribs to cover it or something so we can get a closer look...that would be an awesome episode...

Yes, it's there. On sectionals it's listed as "Greystone" (the official name of the private strip). 17FL is its identifier. It has some really funky turnarounds. It does exist, though, you can of course drive right up to it. The earthen blast areas they have there are huge.

I don't know what's up with the website for it, but it is real.
I think the deal is "if you HAVE to search on the Web to find Jumbolair, you probably can't live here."

The other aircraft is almost certainly not a Gulfstream II. Most likely it's a IV. It has a fairly long fuselage, high bypass engines (they look like Tays to me, but you can't really tell), and winglets just like a IV or V. Maybe it's not his plane, maybe it belongs to a visitor?

Awesome house, though. Who wants a jetway when you can board with airstairs, though? I'd much rather be out in the open.

His Gulfstream is a GII-B. I have stood next to it, taxied around it, asked to hold short while it landed by ATC and help push it into our hangar.....its a GII-B. If you ask nicely I can even tell you the tail number.....and even tell you why he choose the number he did.

EMBQA is 100% correct. I've seen it too, and of course you can look up the rego on the FAA website. It is most decidedly a Gulfstream IIB.

Since it is a G-II basic with a wing modification, it'll look like a G-III, but the most reliable indication is the cockpit window configuration (the G-I/II/IIB has slightly different cockpit windows than the G-III/IV/V).

Incidentally EMBQA do you work for Embraer?

JBird.... Yes I do, in BNA. You are correct on a GII-B and GIII looking a like, other then the cockpit windows...and of course the engines. The first time I saw his jet up in BGR, I was kind of shocked that he had an old 'II-B', but I'll tell ya...it's spot less. His 707 used to be a hideous maroon and brown last time I saw it in person.... that was 5 years ago...then he painted it to a 'near' old TWA. The Qantas colors are SHARP...!!, and I actually think the 707 is an X-Qantas aircraft.

Are you sure that he's not type-rated in the B707?

I was at the Dayton Airshow this past July when he was there to receive a commendation for promoting aviation. As I recall, he taxied and took off in it with John Glenn in the flight deck (I'm assuming with another type-rated pilot as backup), and I could have sworn that the announcer said JT was doing the flying as he made a couple of SWEET low passes over the airshow.

Ye gads-what an estate! The whole property is like a small airport! Yes, Mr. Travolta must rank as one of the most fanatical aviation aficionados anywhere and it certainly helps that he commands over $20 million for every film he does so he can bankroll his dream lifestyle. It wasn't all that many years ago, well after his initial success, that he was virtually washed up in Hollywood. Thanks to Quentin Tarantino, he got his career back. Now, even such an incredibly bad picture as (hold your noses, everyone) "Battlefield Earth" can't sink him! Amazing guy!

According to the FAA's website, Mr. T is typed on these aircraft (P means private privileges)

P/CE-500 P/G-1159 P/HS-125 P/LR-JET

That means he can fly pilot in command in these aircraft (Citation, G-1159 Gulfstream, Hawker-Siddeley 125 srs, and Lear).

Now this is getting into one of my fuzzy areas, but FAR 61's type rating requirements state that a type rating is only required for PILOT IN COMMAND. If I've got that right, Travolta can be second in command (therefore acting as a required flight crew member) and be exempt from needing a type rating. Why doesn't he just go out and buy one, I have no idea. But he's legal flying that airplane without a type rating...as long as someone else is along with him acting as PIC Smile/happy/getting dizzy

That house is unbelievable - although I don't find it at all coincidental that he owns a 707.

One of the core beliefs of Scientology (JT's religion) is that all humans are possessed by the souls of creatures killed on Earth 76 million years ago by an intergalactic emperor named Xenu. When you have achieved "clear" in Church of Scientology terms, you have actually purged yourself of these souls, or "thetans" as they call them.

Aside from all that, JT really does seem to love his flying, and I am very envious of his house. I've seen airparks before and that really does take the cake!

By the way he does not live in Ocala, he lives in a small town called Anthony. His Gukfstream has flown in and out of KOCF quite a bit as that is the airport closest to my home. Actually my house is on the approach to the field.

In this picture, how does the plane get to the runway?
If that level strip of grass is how to get onto the runway, forget it, I wouldnt take anything larger than a Cessna on grass. In the rainy seasons, im sure it gets muddy, and if a 707 getts stuck in mud, it cant be an easy job getting out.

But that still is awesome!.

It seams to me that it is a "land at own risk" thing going on here, If its unattended, then that means no ARFF, right?

This is a private airport, so you would have to discuss flying in there with the owner. Most likely, they would deny you permission.
