A 340-500 Question

Hello together,

I am very interested in the A 340-500 since I saw the online presentation of this brand new plane on the Emirates and on the Singapore Airlines websites.

Singapore Airlines is going to fly with the 345 from SIN to LAX in February 2004 and later also to NYC (I don't know to which airport exactly).

Emirates has a list with possible future routes on its website, the routes mentioned there are the following: DXB to KIX, AKL, MEL, SYD, LON (no specific airport is mentioned), GIG, EZE, YYZ, YVR, NYC (no specific airport is mentioned), ORD, LAX and SFO.

Now my questions:

  • Does anyone know to which destinations will Air Canada and Qatar Airways send their A 340-500?


  • Are there any other A 340-500 customers?

    The 2 AC A345's are currently stored at CHR!

    They will probably never fly for AC  Sad

    Hint for you Patrick: LGW-DXB and back on EK A345 Big grin Hope you can arrange ID tickets with your new job soon!

    Qatar Airways have no A340-500s on order, only A340-600HGWs. They one you currently see pictures of is a Royal plane.

    Thai has three A340-500s on orders which will likely be used on North American routes.

    Frederic, I didn't know that AC's 345 are stored at CHR, it would be a pity when they would never fly for them. By the way, you have mail.

    Jeremiah, thanks about the information about the QR plane, I didn't know that it is for government use only because it has the original QR livery. Thanks also about the information about TG's 345 order, maybe they will start a few new routes to the American continent, currently is LAX their only destination there.

    LON (no specific airport is mentioned)

    LGW will receive the first A345 service

    Frederic, forget it, Banana Air doesn't have an interline agrement with most carriers, unfortunately I can't arrange ID tix while employed by Banana Air  Big grin

    I just have a quick question on whether scheduling the A345 on the LGW-DXB route really makes sense? I mean the route really doesnt take advantage of the great range that the A345 offers, so isnt this a better route for an A332 or a 777? The proposed routes to America, Canada, and Australia all make a lot of sense though, especially that they can now avoid the stop over in Singapore. One more point about Emirates, as they recieve more A345's and gradually phase them in on the Australian routes so they are non stop, well they will then probobly have some extra A332 and 777, so why are they leasing A343's? Thanks for the input

    Last I heard it was that Royal Brunei will pick up those AC A340s by Q1 2004. But yesterday again I read from somewhere (I don't remember where) that EK will be picking up these birds?

    I don't know the reliablity of any of those sources.

    Because, aside from two ex-K6/BA 772As and a number of M11s, those were the only modern 300 seaters immediately available. The A343s will be phased out once the 773ERs begin to arrive.

    www.skyliner.de reported that the AC A340-541 are going to EK.

    Boeing placed all 17 A340-313 from SIA.

    Emirates leased 8 for 9 years
    Gulf Air leased 5 including a new build. Term ?
    China Airlines leased a another new build.
    Cathay Pacific leased 3.

    Motorhussy's question is very interesting, would be great when someone has more information about AC's planned nonstop flights to India.

    YYZ-DEL-YYZ was launched as planned... but now must divert 1hr out of its way due to Russian airspace restrictions
