Northwest 330 Plans
If NWA now has 5 330's, where are they using them? I can see on the current schedule 3 to AMS and 1 to FRA. Are they rotating them with the 5th aircraft on these routes. How often does one need servicing. It seems that if you had 5 new aircraft, you would want them to all in the air every day. Also, how is it widely known that no more will be delivered this year. Where do you find that out?

NWA plans to eventually put the A330s on pretty much all the international routes served by the DC-10-30s. They will soon be serving LGW as well as NRT. And I would expect they will eventually reach HKG and CDG as well. Believe me, expect a massive expansion of the A330s on international routes. As more A330s enter service, the route expansion will increase If I were you, I would go to google.com or airbus.com. They are sure to provide answers about the delivery schedules. (oh yeah)! Try checking out nwa.com too! I'm sure the A330 is all over the NWA website right now considering it is a brand new aircraft in NWA's fleet!

I am not sure the routings for the 333s, I know that most of them fly DTW-AMS and FRA. All A330s will fly soley from DTW to European destinations until the 330s are flying to all of the European destinations from DTW. Then, NW will add the A-330s to other European destinations (i.e. MSP-AMS, MSP-LGW...).To answer your second question, the NW Employee News Line reported that the last 330 of the year was delivered today. That is where I get the majority of my information. I would assume that the next 330 would come into the NW network in Jan of 04 (not sure though).

I've looked at airbus.com and couldn't really find anything out about the upcoming deliveries. You've got the inside info.

Well it could be considered a first that NW is giving DTW preference over MSP. Maybe the airline industry is changing??? hmmm...

MSP is going to be the MX base for the A330s, so my guess is we will be seeing more than any other hub once all planes are online. Also, when the delivery is taken, we take them into MSP before they enter service. They are not giving us the shaft because we get to keep the DC-10-30s longer. 
Watch the flight trackers and you will see an A330 at MSP about once a month.

I think you might be thinking of N805NW. I think N802NW was actually delivered in July.

Amsterdam actually has 3 NW flights with A330's all DTW, delightfull to see them with this lovely wintersun when they taxy from the Polderbaan to the terminal on v.v. to the runway.

Does anyone know What NWA cities will be served by the A330-200's once they enter service next summer. I would assume they would be used over the Pacific because of thier longer range but hoping to hear someone confirm this!?

Hello, AMS seems like a very friendly place to take pictures. Most of the pictures of the 330 seem to be coming from AMS. This color scheme sure looks good on it. DTW is not that friendly for spotting. Fortunately I will be taking my first trip on one in just over 3 weeks. DTW-FRA

I drive past DTW every afternoon on I-94, at about 1:00pm. I almost always see an A330 parked outside (or inside) of the DC-10 hanger. I even take my digital camera with me and try to snap shots while I drive! I haven't been successful in getting a good pic - Anyway, an A330 (or 2) is usualy there in the afternoon. I assume it is getting some maintenance at the DC-10 hanger.

Don't expect HKG to see A330 service anytime soon. That won't happen until the -200 series is deployed in the Pacific. The most likely city to see the 330 this winter and spring is CDG. LGW is served by MSP and DTW so those flights can be accomplished by a MSP crew (pilots) as MSP-LGW-DTW-LGW-MSP. It is also very likely to see FCO added to the schedule this Spring from DTW. Minneapolis is scheduled to fly the A330 but not for at least another year until there are more in the fleet. The West Coast bases like SFO/SEA will see the -200 late Spring, early Summer for trips to NRT. MAYBE you will see the -200 flying PDX-NRT if NW can get a deal with the Port of Portland. Stay tuned...

The website mentioned above www.mspupdate.com claims that aircraft 805 is making it's way to DTW and will start service with LGW. Anyone know if there's any truth to that?

Just got an e-mail with some news from the NWA pilots union about the A330s. Here's what they're saying:

- "DTW DC-10 base will close April 1. 15-20 positions will move to MSP for February flying. (Might keep half of DC-10 base until May 1)"
- "Early delivery of 3 A-330’s in 2004. All DTW-Europe flying except LGW will be A-330’s. This includes DTW-Rome."

Any idea what the plan for LGW is? That says all DTW-Europe flying will be A-330's except LGW.
Also maybe it's been discussed before and I missed it, but where are the pilots coming from for the A-330? Are they being transitioned from DC10's and 742's or maybe upgrading from 320's or 757's? Maybe a combination of all that?

I'm guessing the majority of the A330 pilots come from the DC-10 - to keep seniority levels similar, etc...
I'm glad to see that NWA seems to be accelerating their introduction of the A330.
And 60 A330 crews to HNL - does that mean that ultimately all of NW's flights out of HNL will be A330?
