Cayman To O'Hare

Mon Nov 10, 2003 11:40 pm

I've seen commercials for Cayman Airways flying from ORD. Anybody heard anything about this and from what terminal would they fly from?

Don't know the terminal...good bet it is UA related. Although they (Cayman Airways) have no affiliations they do seem to have good STAR contacts.

They just leased 737-300 for the route. Think its 3x (maybe 4x) weekly. Seasonal, depending on how it goes.

Studies have revealed high proportion of O&D traffic from Chicagoland area.

Hope it works for them! Regards,

It shows just twice weekly (wed/Sun) in Sabre effective Dec. 15. I wonder if they pulled down their schedule inconjunction with the UA service. They did acquire the 737-300 in a dual-class configuration for the ORD service ... twice-weekly is extremely low-utilization, maybe they'll open up another route?

I am not 100% certian but I think it's 1 class, I maybe wrong however. The thing is, 2 class would not be very feasible for their other routes.

Is UA starting service? I know they have code shared some seats with STAR partner AC out of YYZ. I didnt know they were starting their own service? Regards

Here's the info....

CHICAGO, October 7, 2003- United Airlines (OTCBB: UALAQ.OB) today announced that it will launch seasonal, Saturday-only service to Grand Cayman (GCM) from its hub at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) from December 20, 2003 through April 24, 2004. Flights are available for booking beginning today.

This move expands United’s current service to the Caribbean, which includes flights to the regional leisure destinations of Aruba; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; and San Juan, Puerto Rico. In addition, service from Washington Dulles to Cancun, Mexico will begin on February 14, 2004, pending government approval.

"We are excited to be introducing new, international service from Chicago O’Hare to Grand Cayman for the winter travel season," said Kevin Knight, vice president - resource planning. "The addition of Grand Cayman to our O’Hare schedule now gives customers more choice, more convenience and more great fares when planning travel to the Caribbean."

The new service will use Airbus A320s or similar aircraft with 138 seats, configured with 12 seats in United First Class and 126 seats in United Economy Class. The southbound flight will depart Chicago O’Hare on Saturdays at 8:00 a.m. and arrive in Grand Cayman Owen Roberts International Airport at 12:54 p.m. The return flight will also depart on Saturdays from Grand Cayman at 2:25 p.m. and arrive in Chicago at 5:30 p.m.

United and United Express operate more than 3,300 flights a day on a route network that spans the globe. News releases and other information about United can be found at the company's web site at www.united.com.
