727 With Winglets?

Wed Nov 19, 2003 1:07 pm

Anyone ever see a 727 with winglets?

There is one flying with Pan AM!

What an odd sight.

Seen the Pan Am one, it's pretty slick!

Also seen a PRIVATE 727-100, with the MD-80 series engines AND winglets. It's all part of a hushing modification, pretty dang sweet if you ask me  Smile Hope to see more as we go!

That would make the ultimate BBJ. Imagine a 727-100 hushkitted, with winglets and an EFIS 2 crew flightdeck.

Delta had a 727 with winglets about 10 years back, they were trying out the quiet wing system.

They look pretty cool.

I know the inspector who worked at the company that installed Sunworlds winglets, he is the one who signed the job off. He said they were installed to comply with noise regulations, not by making anything quieter, but by getting the plane higher much faster, to get out of noise regulated areas sooner. Pretty interesting way of getting around the noise laws.

Delta's two 727s that had Valsan winglets were N410DA and N411DA. Very sweet design!

Ive seen a couple of them.......theres a grey private 727 out at FTW.....Mecham airport in Fort Worth, Tx. There are several different storys how and why it is still sitting there and i dont know what to believe about that aircraft. But last i saw it was still sitting there and has been for some 4-5 years now.

I think the PAN AM ones look SWEET.....very nice to see an old bird like that with a newer type desighn.

I've seen that silver 727 at FTW many times. Most recently about two weeks ago. It hasn't moved for quite a while from what I've heard. I've heard some rich person in Mexico owned it and had a ton of work done on it at FTW and then couldn't pay for it when it came time to pay the bill.

I've also heard it has a hot-tub on board, along with a waterbed. Now whether those rumors are true or not, I don't know. Seems pretty far fetched on both accounts, especially with the weight of water !! The last I heard is that plane will never fly again because it owes sooooo much money to the City of Ft. Worth for airplane rent/storage.

It's a cool looking 727 though !!

Reminds me of the L-1011 that was at Dallas Love Field FOREVER !!!!
The rumor was it was owned by Yassar Arafat. I don't know whether that is true or not either. Last time I was over on the east side of Love Field, the plane was gone. Don't know where it has gone to, though.

There is still a very old DC-8 over at Love Field in the former Saudi paint scheme. I've heard that the plane is going to be cut up for scrap metal. I think an Aviation Technology school used the plane for quite some time for their students.........

I've flown the PanAm 727 with winglets several times. From Boston to Montego Bay. I also was able to be in cockpit for flights in and around Portsmouth, NH. I think they look pretty sharp myself.  Smile

Asia Pacific's 727-200F (N319NE) has winglets, and is a frequent visitor to HNL. It usually parks out on the North Ramp hardstands. Does anyone have any background on N319NE?

There's a nice cream colored 727 on a.net that's a private bird with winglets. Matthew Willmott-Sharp took the photo, but I can't seem to find it again. Winglets on 727s look awesome.

2 Tay Engines? What did they use for the centre engine?

Kelowna Flightcraft based out of Kelowna BC Canada, flies a number of wingletted (if that is a word??) 727-200F's for Purolator Courier and possibly may have others not flying for Purolator...

I can tell you the shock I had (I work for Purolator) when I saw one of our planes with Winglets. It was quite an interesting site! I think it looks very sleek with them!
