NWA's Avros

Thu Nov 20, 2003 7:04 am

I am scheduled to fly an Avro for the first time on January 7th, from FNT-MSP. Will i get my ride, or will it be replaced by that time? Any guesses to what with?

They are going to be out by April if they are pulled. My guess is that routes that are being substituted already have been. If you don't ride an Avro, your flight number will probably change over to a NW DC-9. Have fun!

Only 5 AVRO's will be out of service as on January 1.

If your flight is replaced it will either be by a DC-9 or a CRJ.

Aviatortj is correct also - the flight number will change if the a/c is substituted.

I hate the fact that they are called "Avros". To me they are BAe 146s. The design had no connection with Avro being a former Hawker Siddeley based project and being given a number from the old De Havilland block of designations. (DH/HS 121 Trident, DH/HS 125 Executive Jet, HS/BAe 146)

Well in the NW flight schedule they are known as "ARJ" in the seatmap section of the website it's known as the "AVRO RJ-85"

I've taken the RJ85 from MSP-FNT, and it was a great ride. Pleanty of legroom, even for me, (tall as heck), nice crews, and a nice ride.. Enjoy them while you can!

Lets do some sexy math. We add you, subtract your clothes, divide your legs and multiply

FNT is Flint Michigan -- where Buick motorcars are made.  Smile

Northwest Airlines has already updated their schedules to reflect the 5 Avro RJs that will be pulled out of service. GFK is one city that NWA has pulled ARJ service out of, starting Jan 2004.

As for the comfort of the NWAs ARJs, well, there's almost no argument that these are very nice. Very wide seats, extra legroom, spacious cabin, etc.
