The flight number indicates that this aircraft was more than likely just being ferried to PIT (probably from storage). I don't know the reason for that though. You are correct sir---US does not operate the 737-200 anymore.

It's possible that US sold 732 to someone and need to clean it up before giving to new owner.

New Iberia (ARA) based for the any planes get fresh painting. I don't know if they are new paint for 737-200 but why? I don't think 737 can storage in PIT. It should storage in Ardmore, Marana, Mojave, Victorville or Kingman, AZ. etc.. It seems odd USAir bought down to PIT last night.

New Iberia is where US gets their planes painted. The aircraft type is probably incorrect; it's probably a 733 or 734. US certainly doesn't operate 732's anymore, and I don't believe US even owns any 732's at this point.

Might be what Delta is doing bringing some of their old Delat express 732 back from storage and putting them mainline. So US Airways might do the same thing. Its been awhile since Iv seen a US Airways 732 last time I saw it was Metro at MCO Jan of 2001

I've seen a few old US 732's in TUS. They are stored at Hamilton Aviation and were sold to a charter company a rep told me. It was great to see them. There are also alot of old PSA/US MD80's there.

Incidentally, that's probably one of the last, if not the last, planes to be repainted for a while. US is stopping the paint tracks so as to keep as many aircraft in service as possible due to the Airbus S-Check situation.

As I said, US was probably pulling it from storage to be sold to someone.  Smile

USair sold one to Congo Airways, has been waiting to be delivered. Should be N273AU.

This appears to be an error. The aircraft was actually 737-301 N350US returning to PIT after getting some fresh paint down in New Iberia.

Last time I was in ARA there were several 737-200 sitting around in storage. Don't know who's as they where all 'white tails'.

LGA~
Nice to know that US still paints their aircraft. After my last little excursion down to PHL and looking at all of the chips that were off their aircraft I had begun to wonder  Big grin

As a side note, good god I love the site of a US 752 or 762 gliding down to the runway. Just beautiful!

According to my 2003 Fleet book, USAirways still has about 12 737-200s in its fleet.

But even funnier than that it still has 18 F-28s leased out.
