Was wondering if anyone knows what sort of large transport landed at PIT around 12:30PM on 12/1/03 (today)? Nothing unusual on Flytecomm, so I'm assuming that its military. It was haze gray with a "T" tail, high wing and what looks could 'be a large fold down ramp in the rear sloping up to the tail. Not the usual KC-135 or C-130 that we get out here. Didn't look like a C-17 because I didn't see any winglets.

That's what I thought, but I thought that MAC had replaced the C-141 with the C-17. I think that I read that somewhere a year or so ago.

The only thing close to this description that I've seen at PIT lately have been some C-17s. And man was it something to see that behemoth land and take off.

It was probably a C-141B Starlifter. While they are being removed from service in favor of the Globemaster III, there are still squadrons flying the C-141 out of McGuire AFB, NJ as well as in the Reserves and Air National Guard

Definitely wasn't the C-5, seen enough of those spending time in Charleston, SC a couple of years ago. Being under one of those things on its approach is like seeing an eclipse of the sun! My guess is that is was a C-141 because of the lack of winglets and the it had a longer narrower appearance.
Would appreciate it if anyone could confirm.

Just read that the President is going to be in town tomorrow for a big fundraiser. Possibly this plane was a transport bringing in support equipment (presidential limo, Secret Service) for his visit? I wonder if this means that AF-1 will be at PIT tomorrow?

I saw something similar to the C-141 land behind us (US 737-300 landing on Rwy 32) on Rwy 28L a few months ago. The engines were producing an awful lot of black smoke though.

last week i was down at Stewart Airport were most of the American C-5s or as i like to call them The Galaxys are based, and there was a KC-10 which i dont usally see there and there was one C-141 which apperantly was a diversion do to weather. I has only seen one before at JFK on 10/24/03 and it had red and blue ribbons on it which was quit a cowincadence because it was the last day of the concorde.

KingGeo3, it was almost definitely a C-141 then. Typically the advance team comes in on a C-141. As for seeing C-5s at CHS, when? Before they had their C-17s, C-141s were based there.

It was probably a C-141. I know March ARB still has quite a few.

I stand corrected, it was a C-141 at AFB / International (CHS / KCHS), USA - South Carolina">CHS . The C-5 blotting out the sun was when I was in Delaware (Dover AFB maybe?). Back in the late 90's when I was in college, both during the same spring break trip.
