Airlines Celebrating 100yrs Of Flight

Sun Dec 14, 2003 12:55 am

What are airlines and airports planning to celebrate the Wright Brothers historic flight?

In Malta, Airmalta together with the local flying clubs, the Army and other local air taxi operators have organised two flypasts. AirMalta will be using a B733 full of aircraft enthusiasts from the local club. The flights will take place over a popular seaside resort and are scheduled for Sunday afternoon and on Wednesday the 17th also in the afternoon.

Malta International Airport have put up a neat stand in the check in hall with a scaled down model of the Wright Flyer in the centre of the structure.

Even though this is a historical date, you just know that in the end, it's all going to boil down to something like this:

"Hurry Hurry! Take advantage of our Super Century Of Flight Saver Specials! Book now and save up to 30% on selected flights. Offer ends soon. see website for details and restrictions."

Sadly, I don't even think most US airlines will even acknowledge the milestone. They seem to prefer not to have their customers think about being on an airplane.

I am scheduled to fly over North Carolina on that date. I intend to mention it and thank the passengers for the part they've played in the development of the industry.

Hope we can see Kittyhawk.

Wow ! How disappointing. To think that an insignificant country like Malta would fly ALL aircraft types on the register in a flyby - twice - must mean something. There must be someone else who is also planning something. Nice thought SlamClick. I would do the same thing. But I am off duty on the 17th.

Actually, Delta has some plans of marking the event. I posted an article from Yahoo early last week with their plans. Here's a link to the thread: https://www.airliners.net/discussions/general_aviation/read.main/1298940/
