How Is Malaysia Airlines Like?

Mon Feb 02, 2004 2:45 am

I'm non-reving to KUL in april and I have the choice between KLM or
Malaysia. Is Malaysia comparable to Singapore and Cathay in terms of service?
I have a much bigger chance flying in C-class if I choose KLM but I am
curious about Malaysia Airlines. Can anyboby comment on it?
Do they have PTV's in coach on their 744's?
I also considered going via DXB and try out Emirates but than I have to wait and transit in DXB.
The point is, I'm on KL planes weekly and I'd like to fly on some other airlines.
What do you suggest??

Fly Malaysia ! Much friendlier service than KLM. I never flew SQ or CX, but many other airlines and MH was the best. Nice young flight crew too. They have PTV's in coach with games and so and the most recent movies. During the whole flight they pass with water and juices. 4-5 choices af food.

I have flown SQ, CX and MH and I can safely say that MH provide excellent service in all classes. Nice, friendly crew and the seats are comfortable as well. They have PTVs in all classes on the 744s, 777s and 332s. THe food too is excellent!

Seat pitch in economy class is also better than SQ or CX.

Cabin crew are great too. Friendly efficient service which can be compared to SQ about 15-20 years ago!

My Mum knows someone who just got back from Australia and they travelled MH. She said that they rated them very highly.

I agree. Just got back from Australia yesterday on MH (777's & 747) and would definately reccomend Malaysia for anyone making a similar trip. Having flown all of the US majors, and many of the non US majors, MH is definately near the top (if not at the top).

Fly MH. Their service, food, comfort etc. will make your trip really enjoyable. All my experiance with them were great. Makes you wanna make them your exclusive airline to travel in future.

MH certainly goes beyond expectations

Definately MH, one of the worlds best airlines in my eyes, albeit their buisiness class and first class seats are outdated, but they are in the process of upgrading their fleet. Either way they make up for it with their outstanding service and catering!

Not really good. Just had 9 flights with them in the past 14 days and wasn't really excited. 6x B734 and 3 F50 for the records. FAs average, food average, cabin sometimes somewhat dirty, seats worn.

Flying-Tiger

It seems that you've flown them on short hauls. I have to say if you are in Economy flying short hauls or flights on B734s they are nothing special. As for F50s, these are pretty short flights and don't expect too much.

Services onboard their A330s, B777s and B744s are outstanding as been mentioned by others above.

You won't go wrong with MH! Check out the Trip Report section, there are some reports on them recently.

I would fly on Malaysia Airlines! They offer great service on long-haul flights and in my opinion, their Y is better than CX, SQ and most of other carriers. You can't compare their F50 ops with their 744/772 ops at all.

Much better than KL!

Go for MH. Great service with generous seat pitch. MH Y Class is absolutely fantastic. Better than SQ, EK or CX.

Plus! you can earn/spend FD miles with MH.  Big thumbs up  Big thumbs up  Big thumbs up

Just arrived on this mornings MH002 from Kuala Lumpur. Am at home opening 2 weeks worth of post but when free will post my trip reports. Look out for them. MAS service is still second to none in my opinion. I had an excellent flight on last night's sleeper. The 2 stewardesses looking after my section were jovial and friendly. They were exceptionally apologetic however when due to bird-flu the menus were all altered at short notice. There has been no poultry on MAS since yesterday but there was a lot of fish, prawns and seafood instead.

We left KUL over an hour late at 0112 hours (local time) but landed on schedule at 0552 at LHR. The pilot explained the cause of the delay was due to the night curfew at LHR and if we had left on time, we would have arrived at 0440!

I wasn't too keen on their A333s however - check out my reports to find out why...

I second to all those in favor of MH (don't get me wrong since I am a Malaysian, but technically my all time favorite for F international is All Nippon Airways (ANA) if it is their 747 with their brand new First class suites which flys from BKK via NRT to LHR, FRA, and JFK), but I would like to state my personal opinion, I would only fly with MH only on these airplanes 747, 777, and 332 only as these planes at least do have the space and in flight personal video screen. For the rest, I will avoid them like plaque.

KLM Cedric,
Well, enjoy the comforts of MH 777, you won't be disappointed.

I don'y think that is a really fair reflection on the airline as a whole, as with most airlines their international product is usually much superior than their domestic.

Well - the general question is "How is Malaysia Airlines like?" - and I had quite a number of flights with them in the past two weeks and have written my opinion that they are nothing special. When their intercon service is far better - well, nice for them, but I´m not flying them intercon but domestic. And I can really only comment on what I´ve experienced and nothing else. For me it is a fair reflecion, because after 9 flights in a short period I think I´ve some sound knowledge about how they are. If you not agree with my point, then fine, but leave me my opinon. Besides: from a carrier which calls itself to be among the best I can expect this level of service even on the shortest flights. Otherwise it is just another case of only half-true advertising.

How is Malaysia Airlines like..... stupid question in my eyes. Malaysia is know for its great service and it is better and relaxer to fly Malaysia from Europe to Asia then with airlines like SQ, CX.

I wouldn't think twice to fly with them. They are definitely one of the best carriers out there. Their cabin staff are courteous and professional and their Economy in-flight products are simply amazing.

Woah... cool it y'all. I tend to agree with Flying-Tiger because when I flew KLM and wrote a stinking report about that flight, I am sure many wanted to defend it and go into a rhetorical lecture on how good service actually is on that airline. I would have wanted a.netters to respect my views becaue it was what I experienced and it is my right to write about it.

Remember when I wrote about Northwest and got lambasted into oblivion by the hardcore supporters? It became a mud-fest worthy of Jerry Springer. Still, that is what makes this forum interesting. But guys, live and let live.

Whether is MAS's advertising half truths? Well, that is what advertising is all about isn't it? Playing up the virtues and mentioning none of the negative aspects. Welcome to the world of marketing. Not everyone of us have had the priviledge of flying MAS on both international and domestic routes. Remember that...

Cheers
Ryan
