Using Points To Upgrade.

Wed Feb 04, 2004 4:11 am

I have plans on going to NYC soon from Sweden hopefully on United and SAS in economy class. I also have plans on flying to SFO this summer with United and Lufthansa in business class. My question is, I got points enough to upgrade from economy to business or from business to first one way, I have before only flown in economy and economy extra.
Which gives the best value for my points?

that depends on what you're looking for...

first on LH is just luxury - I love it and whenever I got the possibilty, I go for it.

anyway, I'd prefer 3 business segments vs. 1 biz/1first/2eco so I'd upgrade the return flight from eco to biz.

Gunnar,

If you are paying full fare in C on LH for your SFO trip, my suggestion would be not to u/g to F. Take a chance, because if the flights are running full in Y, they may need to move some pax up to C, and bump you up to F anyway for your C class seat. Airlines are infamous for doing this on oversold flights to make room at the "back of the bus". I would use the points to u/g my flight to JFK from Y to C. I just can't imagine an international flight in Y.
