Back in '99, I flew F on AA 757's from JFK-SEA-JFK on D-3's from my AAunt.

To the then student, I recall it being very cool.

a)What is the service like in J and F these days (post 9-2001)? I mean, of course there were huge changes after 2001, but how did it affect the front of the cabin?

b)What is J like in a 762 compared to F in a 763?

c)still serving sundaes in the frontin both F and J or only J?

d) will either tickets (both are award gifts from AAunt and mom) in F or J allow us, hopeful honeymooners, entry into Admirals club or Flagship Lounge at LAX? Would talking to my AAunt about that help pull any strings?

I flew on an AA 757 in August, 2002 from ORD to SEA. Dinner service in First started with a Greek salad (which was funny, because the movie was "My Big Fat Greek Wedding), followed by the entree, followed by the sundae. Because of turbulence, the salad and the sundae were prepared in the galley, and not at my seat.

The only real changes were: a) the drinks offered while parked at the gate were in plastic cups and not glass. Once in the air, service was with glass and china. And b) the entree choices were chicken or pasta. On a 757 flight from BOS to ORD in November, 1997, the entree choices for First were chicken or filet mignon, although the dessert was German chocolate cake. So, I'm not sure if the lack of beef was simply the menu for the month or an economic move.

So after many searches on these forums, I still have some issues I hope you can clarify:

Well, the service has suffered slight cutbacks there and there... nothing too major. For your LAX-Hawaii-LA flights, printed menus are no longer offered, but the content of the meals are pretty similar... For the LAX-Hawaii-LAX in F, you will offer a main meal (except breakfast and redeye flights) with a salad plate and small appetizer on the side, a choice of three main courses, and a choice of ice-cream sundae or fruit/cheese plate for dessert. On morning flights, there will be the breakfast after takeoff, and fruit/cheese plate prior to arrival. On redeye flights, you will be offered a light meal such as sandwich or salad, accompanied by rolls, salad, and cookies as desserts. Except morning flights, you get a bowl of warmed mixed nuts before meals.

For the transcon flights, there are a few cutbacks, such as no more pre-arrival cookies. But you get a printed menu. There is no longer a separate appetizer servies, but a combined appetizer salad plate, followed by three main course selection, and then for dessert, there is a choice of ice-cream or tiramisu.

b)What is J like in a 762 compared to F in a 763?
Well, AA has two versions of Boeing 767-300ERs -- one with regular domestic F seats with 40 inches of legroom and one with the new enhanced inernational style business class seats with 60 inches of legroom. Both versions can be found on the Hawaii market... of course, Hawaiian and domestic versions are most often used, but you can never be sure. So it is up to what you get... but J on Boeing 767-200 is comparable to F on a domestic Boeing 767-300... but J seats on 762s have legrests, which are nice. no PTV...

c)still serving sundaes in the frontin both F and J or only J?
No sundaes are only served in first class... domestic J got a ice-cream bowl (no topping) or cake...

d) will either tickets (both are award gifts from AAunt and mom) in F or J allow us, hopeful honeymooners, entry into Admirals club or Flagship Lounge at LAX? Would talking to my AAunt about that help pull any strings?
I am actually not sure, but I am leaning towards "no"... domestic first class awards do not include lounge access, unless you paid full F or is flying international flights. Hawaii is not international destination, so no lounge access.

But one good thing that remains is the Crystal Geyser or sometimes Danon water bottles... you will get them on both the transcon and LA - Hawaii flights. I think transcon F class gets Evian...

The cocktail glasses and wine glasses that USED to be used before for pre-departures were replaced with plastic cups WAY before 2001. Not after.

And as far as the F and J service on AA goes, yes they have cut a lot and let me tell you the company had an earful from the FAs. The ones that love to work the flights and provide excellent service. Yes there out their somewhere. Complained and complained and let me tell you are still complaining. But Management DOES NOT LISTEN TO THERE EMPLOYEES and they never will!!!! That's just the way AA operates. No FA imput is credible and sufficient enough to change or NOT CHANGE something at this company. Surprising they are not in bankruptcy yet.

FLIBOYZ, hopefully that will change with the new incentive program tha I hear was started. All you can do is continue to strive to provide and be the best.

I think AA has converted all of its 763ERs into one cabin layout. I think all have international style business class seats with 60". Please correct me if I'm wrong.

FLIBOYZ... do you think complaining here will make things better? When you make comments such as you did, it only stands to humiliate yourself and your coworkers. This is not the place for your sentiments toward AA as an employee. If it's so bad, I know of about 6,000 flight attendants who would happily replace you.

I, for one, am proud of the service AA offers on it's transcon flights. Things aren't as they used to be, but compared to the service offered on other airlines, AA has done a good job at maintaining its premium product while keeping costs under control.

As mentioned above, all AA 763s have been reconfigured for business and coach only. There are thirty seats in business, and 182/183 in coach.

AA has complimentary day passes to the Admirals Club. Your aunt may be able to obtain them for you. They aren't generally hard to come by, if you know someone to ask for them. I've never had problems getting my parents some. It's certainly worth a try. I hope you enjoy it, and congratulations on your wedding!

All of AA's 763s are now configured with the 60 Inch Pitch. The Seats are VERY comfortable. No amenity gifts given.

For Lounge access you can buy a day pass. I THINK it is 50.00 for the day you are traveling and includes that you can bring in two people. But I am not sure. Call the JFK Admirals Club Directly to find out.

I believe that the Admiral's Club $50 pass is good for that day's travel and not just at that one club. Thus you could use it at both JFK and LAX. Unless you've got some LONG layovers, I don't think the pass is worth it as it essentially only gets you a quiet place to sit with free sodas and pretzels (and occasionally cookies or fruit). Also, at JFK the Admiral's Club is landside. This can be a pain as you have to budget time to clear security.


As others have noted, the "Hawaiian Configuration" 763s with 40" of pitch have been reconfigured to the new two-class 763 international standard with 60" of pitch. Those aircraft did have the int'l J seats, they were just crammed in quite a bit tighter and didn't offer as much recline. They did have legrests though. CO is still the best premium service available to Hawaii. From IAH and EWR it is a BusinessFirst service with printed menus, etc. LAX is a modified service but still quite nice.

As for the transcon, one small note. I recently did LAX-JFK-LAX in P and remember pre-arrival cookies on JFK-LAX (not on LAX-JFK as it was a redeye). Is that in P only now? You won't get an amenity kit on the transcon at all.

Thanks for the news about the Boeing 767-300s... the international J seats are very comfortable...

no amenity kits will be given out on any of the domestic flights. CO used to hand out amenity kits to Businessfirst passengers on the longer HNL-IAH/EWR flights, but I am not sure if this is still the case.

About pre-arrival cookies in J and two class F, they were cut about a year ago, and I am surprised that P has the pre-arrival cookies on non-redeye and breakfast flights. Well, maybe things have changed... but definitely no pre-arrival cookies on J from JFK to LAX on lunch/dinner flights...
