NW 757-300 To HNL From SEA

Thu Feb 12, 2004 10:53 pm

Hi,
i just wanted to get some information from people who live in seattle and what your take is on the 757-300 NW plans on flying between SEA and HNL coming in June, I just wanna know how u guys feel about it? would it be good or would be bad, would the service be the same that's on their DC10s and would u be able to stand a 6 hour flight in a cramped cabin? I was talking to a NW f/a a few weeks ago on a flight from SEA-HNL and i asked her, if she flew the 753, she said yes and told me it's very cramped when going down the aisles with the food service carts, and that it's very bumpy. So I would just love to hear everybodys opinion on this topic and im sorry if it's already be discussed

I was wondering if NW's PW 753's are ETOPS certified?

I welcome seeing more NW 757's on the island. My past experience when flying on a 753 has always been good. I will miss those DC-10's though as NWA starts phasing them out.

....(sniff) and those DL L1011's...T'was a sad day when they stopped showing up at HNL. But that's a different topic altogether.  Smile

Service will be the same as the service on the 10s. There is IFE from drop down screens and yes, the airplane is ETOPS certified (or it will be by June). The DC10s just cost too much to operate to Hawaii. The 757s have low CASMs and will allow nwa to actually profit on flights to Hawaii.

yes they are ETOPS certified, because they will start also LAX-HNL service shortly.

@HawaiianHobo - NWA is not phasing out the DC-10`s yet. They will remain in the fleet at least another 2 years. (Info from NWA sources).

I have flown the 757-300 many, many times between the west coast and MSP, and DTW, as well as from MSP and DTW to MCO. The aircraft is very comfortable, IMO.

Usually I am in first class or have the exit rows, but even when I dont, it is a nice plane.

For all you IFE freaks, NW will unfortunately re-instate IFE on the 757-300's that are going to HNL.

If the 753s replace the DC10s on Hawaii, then where will NW put those DC10s since they aren't to be retired just yet.

I'm hoping that we'll have year-round service from DTW-HNL now.

My thoughts are probably the same as others: I could careless as long as it gets me to Hawaii. Service will be the same, the plane band new (which seems to be a big thing on these boards) and the drop-down LCD screens probably better IFE than the crap currently on the DC10.

The desert  Big grin. NW expects to reduce their DC10 fleet by a handful of aircraft by the end of the year.

NWA is the last carrier to fly 75's to HNL. I will miss the DC10 flying to/from the Islands.

The NWA DC-10s are long from gone, United_Fan. The DC-10-30s are just being booted off of the international flights by the A330-300s and -200s.

I've flown NWA 757's from DTW-ANC direct several time (6 hours.) I never had a problem with being crampt. A coach seat on a DC-10 isn't anything different that a coach seat on a 757. The cabin might be much larger but that makes no difference while seated. It's just too bad the Mesaba RJ85's don't have just a little more range. LOL.  Smile

The DC10s will still service the MSP and DTW to HNL nonstops. So - 753s only from the westcoast. Let's also hope this allows nwa to expand west coast to HNl flying and perhaps to other points in the islands. I too hope for a year round DTW-HNL service... or maybe even MSP-OGG!! =)

It would be cool to see NW do a MSP-OGG Non-Stop, since they already do it from SEA. Also CO flys Non-Stop from IAH-OGG.

It would be nice to see NW do a PDX-OGG/HNL Non-stop since the Portland market is so underserved..

I'm with you Leneld. but NW probably think it would be too much competition with HA. You know it wouldn't hurt to contact NW and ask them if they would plan on doing a PDX-HNL/OGG non-stop.

Favre - when does SFO-HNL commence? What are the odds of DTW-HNL year round or some other NEW Hawaii flights?

I did not think it was 6 hours from sea to hnl. I thought like 4.5 hrs is what it would be . correct me if I am wrong. 4.5 hrs would even be generous.

Patches, you're sort of right...from my experience, flying east from Hawaii to the West Coast is usually between 4.5 and 5 hours in the air. Flying west it's more like 5.5, but it's scheduled for about 6 hours due to taxiing time, etc.

So with the introduction of NW 753 into HNL, can I assume that these a/c will not feature WBC, but rather just the standard domestic F Class seat and service? I think I know the answer, but just wanted to know for sure.

thanks

The SEA-HNL flight will be about 5hrs 30mn from take-off to touchdown while the HNL-SEA flight will be about 4hrs 45mn from take-off to touchdown. and usually u have about a 15-20 minute taxi...so u got to factor that in as well. but I was talking gate to gate. When the 753 takes over here is how the flight will be
