Concorde Show On Feb. 16- Can't Wait!

Mon Feb 16, 2004 10:36 am

Hey guys! I am starting to get excited about this!  Smile !

Concorde: The Final Flight

will air in the USA, at 9 PM E.S.T on the Travel Channel on Febuary 16.

Repeats will air on [email protected] AM and Feb.22 @ 6 PM.

The show will cover the days and weeks leading up to the final scheduled passenger service on British Airways Concorde.

It may feature interviews by BigPhilNYC, Cancidas, Rachel and Bagelman001 (of Concordesst.com), world class Airliners.net photographer Art Brett as well as anyone else who was there with us on Howard Beach that morning.
I may also be on it as well. The producers originally got hold of me after writing this trip report.
https://www.airliners.net/discussions/trip_reports/read.main/31702/

It was great to be able to help the company with the show. We did try to plug Airliners.net a few times so we shall see if that made the cut.

Now that you know the title, please check local listings OR The Travel Channel Website for any up to date changes. You can go to their site and have a reminder sent to your PDA or email on the day prior to the show.

We hope it will be a good show.

The site says they have footage from on board one of the last flights. Should be something! Just programmed my VCR a full 24 hours in advance. Sucks they didn't interview me (not that there hasn't been an ass on national television before  Wink/being sarcastic), but they had me sign a disclaimer. So maybe I'll make it in some footage.

I'm already pumped.  Big thumbs up

Great show, I was suprised to see myself in there a few times. They should have followed Futterman and I a few hours later to LGA where we were hassled and were told our camera would be taken away, haha.

GOD that was great! GREAT! I was the kid in need of a haircut and had a (Hi-8) camcorder on the tripod.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy The story and footage was fantastic...was cool to see Sam's face, too.

Bannister is quite the orator! (Deja vu, Mirrodie?  Wink/being sarcastic)

Great show, all. I just had the urge to make petitions to BA/Airbus to get a Concorde flying again...maybe we can get up some hefty contributions?  Big thumbs up

Awesome show! Was great to see so many people from the NY Aviation community. I got shivers down my spine when they showed the final takeoff. It was great that they fairly represented the aviation enthusiasts in this show; something that you don't see often enough.

I was never to flew on the concorde before. it was cost of $12,000 dollars roundtrip and which one is too expensives money for that. I can't do that for me either. Sorry!  Sad

Well done lads, you looked very good on camera.

Mirrodie, you would make a fine addtion to Queer Eye for the Straight Guy cast, we now have the Fab 6.

Just kidding, Congrats again to all of the airliners.net members that made it on the show.

Mirrodie,

I tried to send you an e-mail from your profile page, but it wouldn't go through. You did an awesome job, thanks for letting us all know about the show. It was great! I am glad that you were able to realize your dream and fly Concorde. Your trip report is awesome. I saw Concorde here at HNL on one of its Round the World charters. She's magnificent in person!

Cheers,

Yes! We mentioned airliners.net as a common bond of ours on multiple occasions, but that plug didn't air.

But I am glad they put spotters in a positive light.

I just remembered my only time of seeing concorde I was at terminal 4 at LHR waiting on a flight to Hong Kong when I was sitting next to the windows reading a book and the windows started to shake and I could hear something through the window first of the day. I looked up in enough time to see the Concorde go right by and go airborne...

Very cool.

The show was top notch. Mirrodie did a fantastic job, as did the other "spotters" who were on hand for the final departure of BA #002 on October 24th. I was especially pleased to see the poet Maya Angelo opining on the meaning of Concorde service ending. The show is a a keeper.

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! My only question.... When Will That Show Rerun?!! I want to see.. Hell, I've GOT to see it again! Excellent job Mirrodie. The only Concorde I have seen and been inside of was G-BOAA. Does anyone know if that bird will be displayed anywhere?

After dismantling and transport, G-BOAA will go on display in a Scottish museum, (I'm not part of this project so I don't know the specifics).

For information, check out http://www.concordesst.com/

For future visitors, Brooklands museum near London, intend to move and restore 202, the 1st UK production Concorde.
If they succeed, and the above site will explain how and where help is needed, they eventually plan to fully open the aircraft with few or no restrictions, unlike any other museum.

Mirrodie, you were GREAT! I Tivoed the show last night and unfortunately only had a chance to watch parts of it this morning, but I watched every bit I could see with you guys on the beach and interviews with Mirrodie. You did such a great job. And I admit to getting teary-eyed when you guys were watching the last takeoff.

Good job to all of you.

I didn't get to see it when it aired, but I had it taped and jsut watched it this afternoon. It came out pretty good. I'm fairly pleased with how I came out, not looking like TOO much of a geek. I'm glad I let my hair grow out now though. I had a bad haircut the day prior and it was much too short. lol

Mario got lots of airtime throughout, which was cool. I'm so happy for him.

There was a aprt at the end where it showed a silhouette of Mario and I after she departed. They actually showed it in SLOW MOTION as I took a "deep breath" to make it look more sad. lol. Cute stuff.

It was a fun experience and I am happy to have done it and experienced it all.

If anybody sees this become available at the Disovery Channel store, please post and let us know. I am not the only one who wants a DVD. I really loved the show and admit, I was teary eyed at the last take-off. My regret is that I never had a chance to fly on her, as that was on my goal of aviation "things to do".

Concorde was the true star, here.

I was just happy to be a part of something so big in my life, you know, with even a mention in the credits?

I saw it twice and it still freaks me out to hear my own voice narrarating. That is so wicked!

THanks for the kind words. What a great trip it has been.

Now if only we can get a documentary on plane spotting! Hmmm, that might be another project to get going!

Mario, I still want an autograph, as for plane spotting, yes that would be good. I still get harassed when I go to IFP, can't understand it. I guess the workers there are so bored since they is only service Sun Country that they need something to do. I sat in the desert for an hour waiting for Sun Country to turn over their flight. Keep working it Mario, your the TV star!  Smokin cool

Gulfstream, the last showing airs on Travel Channel this SUnday Feb.22 at 6 PM but check http://travel.discovery.com/schedule/episode.jsp?episode=0&cpi=107566&gid=12045 for any changes in showtime.

As an offshoot, I had this thought too but some of you have emtnioned it as well:

You know how we've been hassled for spotting lately? And how this show portrayed us in positive light? My mother thinks I should mail copies of the show to politicians, and airport authorities in order to illustrate out hobby and gain their ears. What do you think?

Hmmm, I would think Politicians would probably not care, as for airport authorities they are a pain in the ass. They should be more accommodating but with this age of security it's tough. Give it a shot Mario! You are turning out to be our spokesman. You got my vote!  Big thumbs up
