You Might Be A Flight Attendant If....

Mon Feb 16, 2004 5:16 pm

Ok, hot on the heels of "You might be a ramp rat if...." I'm starting this thread and hoping to see some good responses. I will start it with,

You might be a F/A if...

you answer the phone at home, "4L, this is Robert..."

Ok, let's see what else we come up with.

LOL Brandon! How ironic that is what I start my post with. So are you HNL based? I didn't know CO still had a F/A base here. Thanks for getting the thread going.

It's gate 10, or anything Diamond Head Concourse. Of course the UA RCC is above gate 10, so I am partial to it.

Bobnwa,

That happens alot in the galley after the meal service, during the movie. I guess it's the F/A's version of "meeting at the water cooler".

Great responses so far. Thanks everyone. I'm looking forward to more.

You might be a flight attendant if...

you end any sentance in "at this time"

you can pour coffee, grab a pillow and hold a trash bag all at the same time.

most of your household furnishings are property of XXX airlines.

you buckle your seatbelt and try to retract your seat as you get out of your car.

you keep a bottle of lav spray in your bathroom........ at home.

you have read every issue of people magazine published in the past 2 years.

all of your shoes have scuff and scratch marks on the toes.

you know what people are going to drink before you ask them....

When you have guest over you say to them when they enter your house:

"Welcome aboard, ........... airlines, enjoy your flight."

Or when your guest leave, you say:

" Thank you for flying ........ airlines, we hope to see you again."

You get in your car, shut the door and say to your self "prepare doors for departure"

You always check underneath your bed before getting into it.

When guests arrive at your home, you point out the "features" of the home (ie exits, lavs and reading lights)

You have "Blue Water" in your toilets.

-You reach down and check for the girt bar when you close your front door.
-You only sit in folding chairs.
-You've never bought shampoo or soap (you have enough hotel goods to last for years).
-You pour apple juice on the floor of your bathroom so guests won't walk around in their socks (as some F/As on this board do...).
-Whenever you hear a knock at the door, you crack it then step back.

You might be a F/A if :
you drop some ice on the floor and try to kick it under the stove.

If you go on a three day trip and only pack a tote bag.

If you are always on the hunt for "the perfect" pair of black shoes.

If you have a collection of mianiature soaps shampoo/conditioner.

If always ask for a crew discount even on your days off.

If you have tried every restaurant at your home airport and have a favorite restaurant at each port of call.

You look around the kitchen before grabbing a piece of bread with your hand.

If youre the only one on the plane dressed nice.

When pass traveling neatly arrange your tray and lay down the glasses when doen eating.

are sooo true LOL! Right on!

- when you call decaf "multipurpose coffee".

- when you make a "C" with your hand when ordering at Starbucks

You might be a F/A if when your fire alarm in your house goes off, you immediately open your front door..."You you, stay at the bottom, pull people off and send them away, now jump jump! Don't take anything with you...form double lines.
-My two cents!

You might be a flight attendant if...

... you open your bedroom door in the morning, and look down for the USAToday.

... you have a beverage cart at home (I do).

... you are stunned by the size of the liquor bottles when you walk into a liquor store.

... your friends ask you to bring "just a few of those little Jack Daniels" when they invite you to a party. And you do.

... you HATE Biscoff cookies.

... you can amaze friends and relatives with your ability to open 12 soft drink cans in one sweeping motion, while carrying on a conversation and putting ice in cups simultaneously.

... you refer to the extinguisher under your kitchen sink as "the Halon".

... you use beverage napkins at home.

... you eat standing at your fridge in full uniform with your crew bags sprawled across the kitchen floor.

... you avoid Greensboro, NC because you "just can't stand that damn Ramada".

... you spend your vacation on your couch.

... you're upset when you ONLY get 14 days off for the month.

... you just LOVE pilots.

... you just DESPISE pilots.

... you like going to Houston, because they have those yummy barbeque baked potatoes across from the gate. (Also known in the aviation community as the "gut bomb").

... you still look up every time you hear a jet.

... you only intended to "do this for a couple of years after college".

... even if you don't love the tasks of your job anymore, you are absolutely completely addicted to it, and couldn't fathom doing anything else.

..... you can fall asleep anywhere, anytime, and in any position - with your clothes on or off, with your shoes on or off, after a shower or without showering.
..... you get on a flight with another carrier (or deadheading) and you watch, take notes, and comment on the operating crew's sevice.

YOU MIGHT BE AN ECONOMY CLASS F/A WHEN you can not imagine serving more food than can fit on one tray.

YOU MIGHT BE A BUSINESS CLASS F/A WHEN you offer a chicken, a beef and a fish meal at home for dinner guests.

YOU MIGHT BE A FIRST CLASS F/A WHEN you can set the table in a manner even your grandmother would be proud of you, and you make the best omelettes in the family.

I've noticed there are a lot of F/A here. Would be nice to have an extra forum for F/A, where we can share some tips on destinations and maybe even get to know one another better. Maybe even for dating or just meeting during layovers.

All of you are AWESOME! Thank you, thank you for all of the replies. No, I am actually not a flight attendant, my oldest sister was and that's how I got into aviation. I am one of those who actually listens and pays attention to the safety demo/video just out of respect to the F/A's as I know they are there primarily for my safety, not just to for a "coffee, tea, coffee, tea".

Keep them posts coming, I always need a good laugh.

Flyboy80, ur too funny man! I remember when I was little and would fly the DC-10. I would always be so amazed at where the door went and how it slid up into the ceiling. But, when I fly inter-island here out of HNL, all of the doors are still manual, AQ = B732, HA = B712, and I have to admit, it's kinda neat to see them operate it.

If:
-When traveling on vacation, on any plane, for any airline you hear a chime and you automatically start looking for what seat press there call button.

-You cringe at the sight of Rold Gold or Fisher pretzels.

-You've worked a 5 leg day and on your last leg you can't remeber what city you landed in.

-You know the safety demo verbatim by heart and you don't have to know it

-(for the smokers) You know every smoking area, official or not at every airport

-You have a bunch of wetwipes/trash bags/ coffee creamers in your pockets and can't remember how they got there.

you know you're a flight attendant if when you wake up in the morning you always ask yourself what city you're in...

when you're around other people in uniform you always start the conversation by saying "So do you commute?"...

I must piggy back on a post above... Decaf labeling on coffee packets is only a suggestion!...

when you can sleep anywhere, anytime, in any position...

when you have vacation you stay at home and avoid the public...

when you have dates on the other side of the country and think nothing of it...

when you're at home and realize you have nothing good to eat and too tired to cook, you just catch the next flight anywhere for a free meal (pre-9/11 when food was served)...

when Banana Republic has a limited release item and has run out at their San Francisco store and you think it's no bother to fly to NYC to pick it up...

- You see an aircraft taxi past you and you can visualise exactly where they are in the demo, and start muttering the P/A to yourself

- You see an aircraft taxi off the runway and you can visualise everyone getting up to open the hatracks and then start screaming for them to sit down

Thats all I've got
