Ever Flown Trans-Atlantic On BMI?

Hi,

I flew 'across the pond' many times with BMI during 2003 on both the MAN - IAD and MAD - ORD routes.

Personally, I cant fault the service - the quality of care in 'Economy' is very similar to what ive received flying 'Business' class on UA!!

As i've become a regular face on the MAN - IAD run, i'm now also getting to know most of the FA's by name too!!

I will be going across the pond again (to IAD) in March and am looking forward to it  Smile

I will soon be trying out the new MAN - YYZ service too hopefully in April.

What im wondering is, have you flown across the pond with that airline and if so, how do you rate BMI's Transatlantic service??

What aircraft do they fly???

They use Airbus A330-200s

There are 3 in the fleet - reg no's G-WWBB, G-WWBM and G-WWBD.

This is extremely interesting to me as Ill should soon be moving near ORD and I fly quite a bit to the UK and an ORD-MAN run would be quite nice for me and Ive always enjoyed BMI service in England and Europe as a whole. I wasnt aware they flew out of YYZ either (technically my new home airport will be MKE). Besides, MAN airport is a LOT easier to take than LHR or LGW!

Involved as closely as UK aviation as I am, I have been aware of BMI's trans-Altantic ops and indeed followed the process of starting it up. But having not used the service, the idea of turning up at Dulles on BMI seems very bizarre, since I use them to Dublin / Manchester / Amsterdam and see their Embraers at places like Jersey and East Midlands. Apparently the service across the pond is fantastic, and I hope to fly them longhaul. Why no MAN-JFK?

Flown ORD-MAN-ORD in "the business."

Best C service across the pond. Better than F on many carriers.

I have flown with BMI's 332 from Copenhagen to Newark I guess when SAS did not have enough planes about 2 years ago. I flown over to Scandinavia on a B767.
the 332 have got 242 seating and the B767 have got 232 seating.
the flight on the B767 was more comfortable with a little more leg room which is crucial on a long trip but the should room is about the same.
So I believe it is more comfortable in a B767 with less people but older technology.

Flew from MAN to ORD last year in economy and have to say best Transatlantic flight i've ever been on. Much better than AA,DL,CO,EI,KL and BA who I have used previously, Connection to MIA was good no problems.
comings back was a bit different landed at IAD just as a thunder storm was starting! Problem was it didn't stop, boarded plane on time but didn't receive permission to push back until 3 hours later (no fault of BMI who were again superb) movies were played and drinks and snacks were provided until the plane suffered a power surge (hit by lightening I presume?) on the deck in the pouring rain knocking out the planes GPU. UA ground crew were reluctant to put a new one on immediately due to the weather so had to sit in the dark for 30 minutes next to my wife who is a terrible flier anyway! Eventually got going and landed about 3 hours late again inflight service was fantastic and crew worked tirelessly all night.
My only problem was I saw the first 20 minutes of the movie ''Dead Calm'' 3 times.

I have travelled with just about all the major schedulled airlines that fly between the UK and US. The Bmi service is without doubt my pick of the bunch.

You can usually get DL and US flights a bit cheaper, but the Bmi flights are worth the extra cost.

Use US to MAN regularly. BMI is favorite, but often not cheapest. Have used Economy and economy plus at both Washington and Chicago. 332 used is excellent, also like 764 on CO and US 333. I tend to favor BMI, US and CO as they have newer aircraft and better IFE. Used BA JFK-MAN once never, never again, AA service ranks as high as BA! Tomorrow am routing Bos-LHR-MAN using VS/BMI, lets see.

Just check your onward ticket from VS- I did LAX-LHR-AMS last year VS/BD and the VS people in LAX had my luggage checked through to MAN by accident  Smile Good thing I caught it!
