Longest Flight You Have Ever Been On

Don't if this has been done, but for me it was 16 1/2 hours on SQ
SFO-HKG, that was 1/2 hour from arrival at HGK and was rerouted to Manila due to a Typhoon over Hong Kong.

Really not that bad, lots of sleep!

Longest by distance: JFK-JNB (7969 miles).

Longest by time: LAX-SYD (13:50 takeoff to touchdown).

SVO-IAD. it was a 10 hour flight on an A310 and 5 years ago.i sat next to some kid about my age(was 9 back then) so the 10 hours felt much shorter.I think that he did not fly alot before that flight-after 1 hour he asked if we were close to DC Big grin

Now,looking back on it,i realize how much i pissed off other passengers Big grin

MH from LAX to KUL back in early 90's when they routed LAX-HNL-KUL. After 5 hrs to HNL, another 14 hrs nonstop to KUL.

I know its not THAT long, but mine is MAN-ATL. The total time was about 9 1/2 hrs. I have to say, it wasn't that bad considering we were on the plane for 10 hrs. start to finish.

Unless I was in First, I don't think I could handle a 18 hr flight! I am going LAX-SYD in a few months and I am determined to upgrade!

BOM-AMS - 8 hours 45 minutes on an NW 744 or 742 cant remember our purser sounded gay. ~ dont take that personally anyone! His name was Hal and he said that he'd keep annoucements to a min. as ppl would want to sleep.

CX LAX-HKG in March, 2002. I don't recall if it was a 747 or an A340 but, in any case, it was more than 15 hours. The whole journey, though, was longer. MX MX), Mexico">MEX-LAX, then CX LAX-HKG and then HKG-SIN. We did not stay in LAX or in HKG between the flights.

If I recall correctly, the return flight HKG-LAX is shorter because of the wind.

the longest by time is Lax-Hong Kong Kai Tak almost 16 hours on Delta MD-11.
but I am sure the longest now is the SQ from Lax to Singapore.

LHR - SFO on UA back in November 2003 - 10Hrs 30.

2 Hrs after arriving on SFO i then continued onto HNL - 5Hrs.

Gosh, I don't remember the exact times or distances, but I've flown ORD-EWR-HKG a few times--probably 17 1/2 hours or so. Done ORD-EWR-NRT-EWR-LAS once (Went to NRT on the inaugural flight, but had to be in LAS the next day) Also did DPS-SIN-FRA-LAX once. Wasn't feeling too well that day, so it was a L-O-N-G flight!!

I frequently fly between ORD-BKK several times a year. Sometimes I go through Europe, sometimes the other way.

In the AirForce I did Tinker AFB, OKC to IncirlikAFB, Turkey. Two air-air refuels and 19hrs later we finally got there. I was on the AWACS, we had bunks in the back so I slept like a baby on at least half the flight.

I did two trips, very close..

YVR - HKG, by Air Canada A340-300, about 14 hours 35 mins due to wind direction in Winter, year 2003
Another one was HKG - ORD, by United Airlines B744, about 14 hours 20 mins, year 2001

Relative to some of the trans-pacific flights mentioned before, my longest was DL15 from FRA-ATL a couple years back, just over 10 hours. There was a rather vocal baby and this British hippy (no offence, chaps) a couple rows up who was being a real ass to the F/As. He also smelled pretty rotten....probably like that one guy on the Airline TV show who was politely told to go clean himself up and change clothes. Anyway, after being told to shape up or that the plane would be landed in Greenland somewhere to offload him, he conked out for the remaining 4-5 hours of the flight.

After arrival in ATL, I talked to the guy sitting next to him and it was obvious his nerves had been fried for the day....he probably had a fun time fighting Atlanta traffic at 4PM.

That was one helluva long day for me.

Virgin 744 - LHR/LAX. Approx 10 hours, One Wife, One 18 month old Son, Superb Flight, Great Crew and FA's Total Babes...don't tell the wife.

Air New Zealand - LHR/LAX. Approx 10 hours, One Wife, One 7 month old Son, Superb Flight, Ok crew, slight grumpy FA's, Nice 744 though.

I actually have two "longest flights".

The longest flight, flying time was BA 005 a 747 from LHR-ANC in January 1991.

The longest time on the same plane was on a CO 737-300, flight 1923 from EWR to PHX in May 1999. It was supposed to be like a 530pm departure, but due to weather we didn't board until about 730. We pushed back right away, then taxied out and stopped. The pilot came on and basically told us we were going to stay parked on the taxiway for a while, due to the weather. About 930pm, we started up the engines and turned around back to the gate, some of our flight attendants had to get off or they'd go over their duty hours. They also deicded that was a good time to refuel. Then we pushed back about 1015...taxied out... finally left at like 1130pm. It was a 5hr 45min flight to PHX... so we landed in PHX at about 530am EWR time... 230am PHX time.. all said and done, 10 on a 737... thankfully, the seat beside me was empty.

i.e.
LAX-TPE in the 80s on a China Airlines 742 in economy (i think time was circa 12/13 hrs). was sitting right in front of the smoking.. wow is that not a fun trip....

or

AMS-EWR in Jan on KLM 767. Sick as a dor, flying economy because we were traveling with a group. Seat pitch was horrible (much worse than their MD-11 service DEL-AMS- it was nice to see the trijet). Head cold, congestion, chills all the way back

I think though that DTW-KIX probably counts as the longest, depending on winds up to 14 hours. thankfully have only done that flight in business

My longest flight which was enough for me was in an AA757 BOS-LAX 7 and something hours. Wayy too much for me. Was looking through the windows, fell to sleep, wake up, landoon the window, fell to sleep, wake up, land on the window, and kept going. Remember when getting into California, we had like another hour of populated land.

Second longest, LAX-MIA and third longest SJU-BOS, try to guess how I got back to SJU!

Longest time between single takeoff and landing: SIN-LHR with BA in 1997- lasted 13 hours.

Longest continuing flight: SYD-LHR with QF same year (with a stoppover in BKK).
8 hrs 45 mins SYD-BKK
1 and 1/2 hour wait at BKK
12 hrs BKK-LHR
Total of 22 hrs 15 mins from takeoff at SYD till landing at LHR.

My longest was on Alitalia (DC10 or L1011) from LAX-Milan. That was something like 14 hours nonstop. I might be wrong about that since it was several years ago and there are no longer nonstops on that route that I can find to check the time.

I had to work economy. The mid-flight noodle/snack service felt like it was never going to end!

I think flight time was 17:30 and at the time (2000) it was the longest flight in the world.

This might be a bit out of context, but just imagine how long of a flight it would be for a B2 bomber crew flying missions during the recent gulf war. Take off out of Whiteman AFB in MO, and flying nonstop to do a bombing run in Iraq, and then nonstop back, with obvious refueling stops. I would imagine it is about 7500 NM each way. That would make for about a 26-30 hr round trip without a stop flight. How's that for long haul flight!

SZL - BGW doesn't seem to be that horrible (shorter than JFK-JNB, for example, at 6789 miles), although I agree, the fact that you have to go BACK is pretty brutal.

Wouldn't it be better to have these B2's someplace slightly closer? I remember reading they were going to have these things in England (Fairford?)

Years ago, I did CLT-DFW on a Piedmont 737-200 in the smaller corner cockpit jumpseat with a 300 pound FAA guy in the center jumpseat, 150 knots on the nose. The flight was only about 3:30, but it sure --felt-- as long as that new LAX-SIN flight... Big grin

Longest flight with stops (20h00): London Gatwick-Rome-Bangkok-Manila on Philippine Airlines, in 1994

Longest continuous journey (26h55 incl connection times): Sao Paulo-New York JFK-Helsinki-Amsterdam on Varig+Finnair, in 1995

LHR-SEA (UA 742) - this was actually a diversion flight in '91 due to fuel

As a result of that 11hr LHR-LAX flight above, I decided to always find a stop halfway, rather than do those killer nonstops. I usually fly from SEA/PDX to IAD now, and then across. Breaks up the trip, let's me walk around IAD for a while before the next flight.
