Shortest Flight You Have Ever Been On

Thu Feb 26, 2004 5:33 am

OK, Let's take Jmy007's topic to the other end.. What is your SHORTEST completed (return to gates don't count) airline flight.

Mine is 21 minutes. LIT-MEM in a NW DC-9-31.

~15 mins (I can't remember exactly) on DL MD88 from RIC to ORF (69nm).

A couple of years ago, DL used to operate 1 daily flight from RIC to CVG w/ a stop in ORF. Very short flight, pretty much up and right back down.

Didn't we just talk about this the other day? Anyway, mine was either Nevis-St. Kitts or Papeete-Moorea, both of which are a whopping 11 miles and took about 5 minutes.

It was Houston to Austin in the mid 80's.

The FA's went down the aisle pouring coffee, and as I started to take a sip, they snatched the cup out of my hands, and we landed!  Smile

I did the classic "double take" and got off the plane!

I'll respond for all Houstonians with Houston-EFD to Houston-IAH on CoEx at about 10-12 minutes across town.  Smile

Edmonton to Calgary is pretty short. As I recall, it was about 15 minutes to cruise, 5 to 10 minutes at low altitude cruise, and then descent soon after. I think the entire flight was maybe 35 minutes. It has been 3 years since I took that Westjet flight, so my memory of it may not be totally accurate.
Anyone out there who flies this route on a regular basis, feel free to correct me.

My shortest was on an OA 737-300 from the Greek island of Chios to Samos.

The 50 odd miles only took 12 minutes. It was a special flt put on for us by the Greek Gov't. The journey by car and boat would have taken all morning.

Would you believe they even served us orange juice onboard!
and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.

20mins ATL-CSG back in '91 when there was still mainline jet service between the two cities. Now I think it's ASA CRJs and ATRs.

In December 2002

Sharm El Sheikh-Hurghada (SSH-HRG) with Egyptair on A320-200 'Taba'. The flight was scheduled to take 30 minutes but only took 15minutes. They actually had enough time to serve juice and a slice of cake to everyone even though the flight was full.

20 minutes (or so) from ONT-PSP on an Air California 737-200. One of the bumpiest rides over the exceedlingly windy San Jacinto Mountain range.

Also, my first plane ride in 1969 (AA 707), a "FlightSeeing" tour which let first-timers get a taste of travelling by plane. We took off from ONT and flew over the LA area (saw Dodger Stadium) and returned to ONT in about 45 minutes.
Very enjoyable.

...Papeete to Moorea, Air Moorea, I timed mine at about six minutes, wheels-up to wheels-down, in the DHC Twin Otter. The pilot engaged the autopilot at 1,100 feet.

DUB-GLA with EI on a 737. The advertised flight duration was 55 minutes but I could have sworn that it was no more than 20-25 minutes in the air.

Aloha Airlines, 737-200, January 2003

Flying Honolulu to Maui, took about 30 minutes. I sat behind the engines, nice and loud! Lots of fun, I hope I can fly on another 737-200 before they're gone.

My shortest flight was:

DTW-CLE, Continental Express, ERJ-145, Dont know the duration, i think it was like 25mins or so? Cruising altitude was 10,000 feet so the aircraft was restricted to 250 knots cruising speed.

I flew on AA once from Ft. Worth Alliance to DFW. It's a long story, which I have recounted on A.Net before, but the flight was about 10-15 miles and took about 5 minutes. The F-100 didn't have enough fuel to make DFW, after numerous re-routes due to thunderstorms, so we landed at Alliance to refuel.

Last November. St. Maarten to St Barts and back. 10 minutes each way on Air Caraibes Cessna 208. 52 miles.

Prior to that, Hyannis to Nantucket and back. 15 minutes each way on Cape Air Cessna 402C. 31 miles (but takes longer to fly).

Shortest jet flight was last February, Penang to Langkawi, 20 minutes on Malaysia Boeing 737-400. 80 miles.

And sightseeing tours don't count either?
Nuts.

I guess that leaves me with inter-island flights in Hawaii.
