Airborne/ABX Scheme Will Be Phased Out

Thu Mar 04, 2004 1:20 pm

During a recent meeting with ABX Air (Airborne Express) pilots, CEO Joe Hete announced that the fleet will not be painted in the ABX AIR livery that was tried out on N900AX, but rather in the yellow DHL livery. This will get rid of any identifier of the former Airborne Express. The two most recent liveries are below. It will be too bad to see them go.

I just think that the Yellow DHL is weird looking. I liked the white DHL but the yellow is a little much....maybe once i see it more in the states, it will grow on me...thanks for the news.

The more I see the yellow, the more I like it. Quite frankly, it will be a welcome change. Most of the aircraft they send to STL look like they are on their last limb. That Yellow scheme adds some life to otherwise dull, old 727s and DC-8s

Just so you know, Airborne and ABX don't even operate 727's.

I like the Airborne livery. I didn't like the tails on the 767-200 though. It looks like they forgot to paint the rest of it.

Maybe some creative soul from Modified Airliner Photos will create the DHL scheme on the DC-9 and the 767..... Please?  Smile
Direct KNOBS, maintain 2700' until established on the localizer, cleared ILS runway 26 left approach.

Does anyone know if the plan is to move the Wilmington Ohio operation to CVG.

I know they (DHL) have a new facility at CVG and if they combine them it could be pretty big.

But then what would they do with that airport at Wilmington. Its not exactly small but doesn't seem like its in a good place to have passenger service or anything else.

BTW-I never liked the new ABX paint job. It just looked kind of unimaginative.

It would be a better idea to move the cincinnati operation to Wilmington. Cincinnati's sort couldn't handle the volumes of packages that ABX hauls. Plus the fact that ILN is private, so there aren't any delays really helps. ILN will stay around for a while.

The yellow DHL scheme is euro-sick; is ABX serious about attracting non-DHL business and growing or merely serving DHL until they decide to dump ABX as a vendor? If it's the latter of the two, I'm selling my stock and taking a profit while I can. I wish you guys the best!

I don't really know. It is possible that 900AX will remain in ABX livery to help attract non-dhl stuff, but Hete hasn't said anything. If I hear anything, you'll be the first to know.

In all truth, I think that the DHL paint job looks like something that should be hauling clowns off to the circus. Just my opinion.

DHL has renamed their airline operation here in the US Astar and has painted at one aircraft in that color scheme. How does that fit into all this?
