Singapore Air A310 @ LAX!?!?

Tue Mar 09, 2004 12:35 pm

As I was Driving from Carlsbad to Mammoth to go skiing, I took I5 Freeway and saw an SQ A310 Arriving LAX at about 6:00PM. I have never heard of SQ operating this A/C into LAX. Any info would be great  Smile

most like a ferry flight for a new operator or going to the desert for storage.
SQ stopped A310 services a while back.

Are you sure it was an A310.

It could have been a B777. They fly them often these last couple of weeks.

you were on the I5?

In that case the aircraft was coming from inland. Must be some sort of ferry, it obviously couldn't have been coming to singapore.

When I came through Changi on Friday there was at least one A310 packed up and may have been more but we did not taxi very far. Anyway, what is going on with SQ's A310s? I thought that people had said that they had been sold to various airlines and yet until recently (and maybe still) there were a fair number (four or so) parked around Changi.

I was at Changi about 6 weeks ago and they had at least 2 untitled (but clearly SQ) 310's. I'll be there in 4 more days (arriving in daylight, even!) and will see if any are left.

It might be on its way to Victorville, probably did a tech stop or had to clear CIQ formalities in LAX before continuing on.

But are you sure it was in SQ colors? None of the 310s are left with any SQ titles or logos. They are all white with a blue tail. Some have been sent to Victorville to be broken up whilst a few others were leased to Air India. SQ30, a B777 flight from TPE does arrive about that time so you might have mistook it for a 310.

Did it look like this?

Yeah, when I was at SIN in November, at least two of their 310s were clearly visible.

So does anybody know what is happening with SQ's ex-A310s since I remember people previously going on about them having been sold to other airlines quite sometime ago and yet quite a few (all?) are still parked around Changi.

Miss those SQ A310s already. When I was in SIN from Jul-Aug 2003, there were a lot of SQ A310s parked at remote locations. So I think there are still some left.

i don't exactly miss them. when i last took them on a trip to bali when they were just about to be decommissioned, the plane interiors were in a real bad shape. one partition from the ceiling fell off .. goodness. not to mention the retro-style audio entertainment system.

LOL...but the cabin crew loved to operate that aircraft....only 143 passengers in economy...28 in business with old seats...and 12 in First...simple easy service...no IFE malfunctions...no seat malfunctions....perfect.
