DL MD-11

Thu Mar 11, 2004 1:36 am

I saw a DL MD-11 at the Tech/Ops in ATL last night. How long will this plane be there and where will it eventually go?

Would help if you had the reg.

Speaking of... anyone know what's been doing with 802?

Hey Concorde... I saw that ship last Friday...... pretty sure it was 802. I asked the captain when we landed, he said all the MD-11 had been ferried off, with just one remaining due to " mechanical" issues. Don't ya think that had to be 802?

It was dark; I couldn't read the reg, but it was painted in interim livery.

Was probably 802...it's been there for quite some time, and it's in the interum livery too....it's getting it's #3 engine changed out and other stuff worked on..not surprisingly, it's over at the TOC, with it's good side facing the taxiways, and the charred side to the MX guys...away from pax eyes  Smile

If that incident hadn't happened, you'd bet it'd be in the desert right now  Sad Bring em back Delta!

It is 802 and she's missing an engine right now. Just out of curiosity, are all the others already in Victorville?

3 MD-11's went to Montreal, 1 maybe 2 are flying with World and the rest (besides 802) are I believe in Victorville. 802 had an engine-run up issue that they are fixing. Once airworthy, it will be ferried to Victorville.

Sad to see the MD-11's go to the desert. It is such a good a/c.

hmm, there's the understatement of the year  Wink/being sarcastic

that they are fixing

Interesting. So they've decided not to write it off after all...?

Ship 802 is leased. When fixed it will be going to canada for storage , seven of the 15 MD-11s were leased from a company in canada.

N0 MD-11's are headed to VCV. A couple went to GYR, but the majority headed to YMX until they are picked up by FedEx.

As a side note, there is a World Cargo MD-11 (might be a DC-10, only saw the top of the fuselage + tail) at DL's facility in ATL atm.

I don't know if it's simply there for maintenance or if it's one of DL's old birds ...

The MD-11 took all the know how of the DC-10 and moved it up to the next level.

A wonderful aircraft indeed. One of the best.

Do you think UPS and FedEx would put ultra time sensitive parcel on an unreliable plane....never!

(ok the joke is over Delta, bring em back!)

Ah, actually there are more than a couple at GYR. I counted at least 7. This includes one in the widget livery and the only one painted in the wavy gravy livery.

Are there any photos available of the damage to ship 802? Surely someone has a shot of it!

I remember a great flight in coach. My wife and I had just gotten married and were on our way back home from England (My wife is English). My wife used to be really scared of flying. On this occasion she gave herself one heck of a head ache worrying about the flight. It was a pretty empty in coach and they had only one seat left in Business Elite. I gave it up so that my wife and I could be together on the flight. We had the entire middle row to ourselves she layed down looking cute as can be clutching her little teddy bear and slept pretty much all the way to ATL.

Yes it was that very airplane and it was a great one. Loved all f the rides I have had on the MD11. Too bad they were just not economical enough. Would love to see them continue to serve with Delta but alas no more three holers.

I say Long Live The L1011 too.

Yes, it was 802 you saw, and you will be seeing it for some time. It has to be reapaired as it was leased. From what I hear, a team from Boeing in Long Beach is coming in to do/help with the repair................not everyday a new aft spar has to be installed on an aircraft. I have heard it may take up to a couple of months to complete. Figures............ the biggest headaches just don't leave!!!!!!!!
