DC-8

This is a DC-8...
I don't know if FedEX still uses DC-8's or not, but UPS does. In fact, several smaller cargo companies use the 8 as well.

Looks like an eight to me. DC-8. Those new colors certainly make them look at lot better.

Aaah, the beautiful stretch 8 with the CFM engines  Smile the proper designation is the DC-8-70 series. They sure do look nice in the new UPS livery.

Just one quick note. It's considered taboo to link to anything on that other website.

Those birds turn up at St.Pete/Clearwater every now and then. Sitting next to some of the aircraft parked near-by, they look like they are from another planet, four engines and all. I usually try to take (much to my wife's exasperation) a drive by that airport to see if one's about.

Damn, what beauty. Those four CFM's on that narrow body look impressive. I wonder what kind of range the Super 73 would have as a passenger liner....

Range for a fully loaded DC-8-73 was roughly 4.660nm.

MCOtoATL, all 5 of the FedEx DC-8s went to UPS in the summer of 1990.

N612UA, you make me feel old by saying you've never seen a DC-8. Hell, I am old. When I was your age, they were at almost every airport I ever went to.

Oh well, I've never seen an A321, an A340-600, a 757-300, a 767-400 or a 777-300 except in pictures.
The day you stop learning is the day you should die.
