Largest Ebay Transaction - Gulfstream 5?

Sun Mar 21, 2004 1:42 pm

I was talking to a client today, whom I am assisting in buying some aircraft. He indicated he knew a gentleman called Dan Robinson, who purchased a G5 on Ebay for $54 Million Dollars and put it on his credit card. Is this a true story?

He told me it made this transaction the highest ever on Ebay. I found nothing with google.

He indicated the aircraft was purchased new and a broker turned around and sold it on Ebay.

If If brought a G5 on my AMEX card, would I be able to keep the 54M Membership Rewards points?

That comes out to 2160 free coach tickets @ 25k a piece or 1350 first class awards @ 40k each.

And God only knows how many Bose alarm clocks...  Big grin

This smells like bologne.

1. The price is outrageous.
2. The ebay fee would have been astronomical.
3. The "biggest" internet transaction was indeed for a Gulfstream V for some hot tech CEO but it was not via ebay.

I think Mark Cuban (owner of the Dallas Mavericks) bought his G-V on the internet, possibly over eBay. Not sure what the cost was though.

I read on http://www.snopes.com a couple days that a popular urban legend about AMEX is, in fact, true. AMEX issues a special black American Express card by invitation only to its most wealthy clients which allows them to buy whatever, no questions asked. Apparently clientele have used it to buy business jets (article didn't specify which) as well as expensive cars like Bentley's.

This is a true story folks. I can't think of the guys name right now, but he's the owner of the Dallas Mavericks and has more money than God. I don't have all the details, but he in fact did buy a GV on line.

Mark Cuban is the owner of the Mavs. I think he set up yahoo, or some important web site he sold for a LOT of money, and he then bought the mavs. I also heard the story that he bought his Gulftream in eBay.

I don't think that the GV-SP is that much new.

The GV-SP was just certified a couple weeks ago. Cuban bought a "regular" GV.

Boeing nut is correct. Mark Cuban bought a regular GV.

The new GVSP's, now know as G550, are just now being delivered to
customers as they just became certified.

Every now and then there are Russian planes sold on eBay, in the past few years I saw a TU-144 and a Mig-29 auctioned off

Mark Cuban made his fortune off of Broadcast.com, which he sold to Yahoo! for a nice amount of Yahoo! stock and sold that stock quickly (Yahoo! was trading in the $100 range at that time). The Guinness Book of World Records lists his $40 million purchase of a G-V through Gulfstream's website (his G-V was the second one off the line) as the world largest single e-commerce transaction, so that rumored $54 million Ebay purchase of a G-V is not true.
