Converting Belies

Sun Mar 28, 2004 12:13 am

Just curious as to how much it would cost to have an A320 that carries containers oppose to one that has loose cargo. And by what I mean is the equipment cost as well as the plane cost to that of an A320 that has a loose belly. I hope this message makes sense to you all. Thanks in advance.

A320s are containerized anyway. They are currently the only narrow-bodied type provided with ULD-loading facilities on the lower deck. I'm not sure if airlines can select "palletized" or "loose-only" option, but I believe that all A320s are provided with pallet loading capability.

On a related but different topic, for 757s, however (a non-containerized aircraft), there is a conversion kit available to add rollers, etc. to the lower deck for pallets / containers.
