AA New Colors - Version #4

Thu Apr 08, 2004 2:50 pm

I am a fan of AA's current color scheme, but I did a little sketching to see what new ideas I could come up with. This is version #4. Any comments?

You can see a higher-res version at this link:

Wow! If AA would actually make that their color scheme that would be heaven. Definitely a lot better than the current one.

COAB767, that is rude, this person has put their efforts and time in creating this and you put it down in a sarcastic way? at least be nice about it.

Good on you Concord977, you have great talents, it looks great. However many AA fans here love the classic AA livery and doubt very much their opinions will change.

However keep up the creativity.

Alitalia7e7,

I know what you mean. AA was wise to select their current scheme because it is timeless. It doesn't look like something from the 70s, even though it is.

They must be very careful with their next change that it will be just as timeless and last them another 30 years.

I'm in no hurry to see the current scheme go away. It is a classic.

Thanks for your kind words.

I'm not being rude, just saying I never cared for any of AA's current color schemes. In fact I don't like AA at all. I'm still bitter at the fact they bought out TWA. I had alot of good memories with TWA, and I have alot of friends who are angry with AA for doing this. No offense Concord777

That's a wonderful reason to trash someone's creation! Real mature...  Insane

Also, if it weren't for AA, TWA may have gone bankrupt on their own.

Concord977 -

your drawing is amazing, I think you should submit it to AA and ask em to sincerely consider changing their livery to that!!! I mean, wow, I thought the current AA livery was good, but you made me wrong - you really have a special talent

I would love to see any other type of art work you have done. I am new to airliners.net and since I was a kid I used to draw new liveries for Airlines. I have a creative talent when it comes to design, however I cannot design on computers.

Cheers

Nice drawing! it reminds me of R. P. Abraham's AA fantasy scheme:

I think everyone is thinking along the same lines: change the scheme as little as possible, but add some curves for a more modern look.

Concorde 977, do you contribute to the Modified Airliner Photos website?

Alitalia7e7,

I use a program called CorelDraw! 11.0.

I start with a blank rectangle and begin shaping it curve by curve, etc.

A couple of them are detailed enough that you can see rivets.

Q330,

I have never seen the website you mentioned. I will have to check it out.

Qantasguy,

They are drawn "from scratch". I sometimes cheat a little, and take a digi-photo of one of my models, and then build the curves around the .jpeg.

But most often, I drawn them one curve at a time, while using airliner magazines (and photos from this website!) for reference.

You need to include the "AA" on the tail. It is the corporate emblem and a world-wide trademark; I doubt AA would ever remove off their ships.

Otherwise; very nice.

The aircraft looks pretty good, I like it. If this was presented to AA at a shareholders meeting and if I was a shareholder at the same time, it gets my vote.

Agreed! Try to add the 'AA' on the tail then we got a winner probably  Big thumbs up

Nice designs! I'd keep the AA silver colour though, as it's quite distinctive. At busy airports, it's easy for a plane's livery to get lost amongst the many other tailfins there - unless it is simple and punchy. The best example of this, in my opinion, is the Quantas tailfin: it really stands out amongst the blander designs, and lets you know quantas is there.

Concord977,
I agree with a few other posts. I like your livery idea and the new style (sort of the new Boeing house colors with the wavy lines), but I think that the AA logo would be hard to get rid of. I like the fuselage idea though.

AA does need a new color scheme. Their current one has been around for 36 years. That's too long.

These are very nice. I thought that when AA bought TWA they missed their chance to acquire its color scheme which is much more attractive than the painted can look they favor. I liked the last red and white with the gold world design very much. -Jan

That is a super awesome color scheme for American.

I drew one myself but, I could not make it as beautiful as you did, Concord977.

I think you should submit to AA and see what happens, although I do agree with the others. The AA should remain. Other than that it is great.

I loved the rest of your work. Keep up the good job!

They are absolutely great ideas for liveries I will give you that, but I would be gutted if AA changed their livery. It is timeless and in my opinion looks every bit as modern and fresh as the day it was revealed. I am sorry, but if it aint broke, don't fix it. Why do we need to keep re-inventing the wheel?

At the moment, unfortunately, AA probably doesn't feel a need to do any major rebranding. I personally like the bare aluminum look, however, I do think they could use an upgrade on the livery. The image Curt created was incredible. I really think that would be a positive new image for AA.

Actually CMK10, he is not a flight attendant. A few of the Continental folks have found out that this guy claims to be something he is not, and most certainly comments like this are not helping his reputation one bit. I say just ignore it and let him live in his "fantasy" world.

I don't like it as much as their current one. AA's livery is optimized already, I cannot think of a better livery right now. What the hell is wrong with their current one, anyway? BTW, the eagle diving behind the AA is a bad idea. I like it just the way it is.

I like the idea of the curved lines, but I would go with a more modern version of the Eagle. To me, The "old" eagle doesnt work as well with the modern curved lines that are on the fuselage. I think if they changed it to R.P. Abrahms fantasy scheme it would be great. But good job overall, its pretty good.

Wow... that is really nice. Very very good job with that. It would be awesome to see that on their airplanes someday soon. Is there anywhere anyone knows of that something like that can be proposed to the company? I think it would have a good chance at getting some consideration.

Great job, but I cannot say I am much into the "wavy" look. I like the current AA scheme, especially the white planes, rather than the silver. Biggest reccomendation for you if you were to change your plane, I would say add more to the tail, like keeping the AA there. I don't know, mayeb you can work with this?

Concord977 I just love the new scheme that you have created, and if anyone has something negative to say about it , just let them voice there opinion, and that's all it is an opinion.
The current livery is nice to, but if they did make the decision to change it, you should submit your livery, and who knows you may get there attention, and become well known in there system. All there going to do is get a professional company to make-up some schemes for them and they will decide on which looks the best, but hey man get yours in there to compete as well.
As far as TWA they are very lucky that anyone wanted to even give them a chance, because they became the more unprofessional people that could have ever walk this earth, and there union sold them out, so if anyone does not like AA they know what they can do, don't blame AA, get mad at the independent Federation of Flight attendants for snatching the soles of the shoes straight from under the bottom of them. Some of them tried to come over to Delta and Big Daddy told them that we were not interested in hiring any of them to many bad habits and attitude and we are a zero tolerance airline and most of all NON-UNION and I just love it. (If you can do a B737,757,and 767-200/300 and post it .

Good luck Concord977 create more if you can and the best of luck to you.

I've never made my own liverly before, but I gave it a shot today. I'm a huge fan of American's current c/s so I didn't want anything drastic, so I decided to combine my favorite 777 schemes together-

As you can see, my editing skills are well.. less than I wish they were. Plus I had to use Microsoft Paint. Anywho, this is the best I could do to articulate my idea. I wanted stripes like the 777-300ER and PIA colors with the American silver finish, but I lost the windows along the way. I might try again with something like Photoshop.

Regards,
DFW

BTW- thanks to Rudy Chiarello for this great shot! Here's the original-
