Why No British Flag On EZY 319s?

Sat Apr 24, 2004 8:14 pm

This has probably been asked before, but search came up with nothing. How comes on the 319s there is no mini union flag just a blue block. The have swiss flags on the swiss ones and union jack flags on the 737s

"just a blue block..."

If you look closer it's the European flag (yellow circle of stars with blue background). Any ideas why they might have done this?

Because it's the European Union! More and more carriers have them....

"Any ideas why they might have done this?"

Maybe to position themselves as a European airline?

Maybe it's their policy to use only the EU flag on planes reg'd inside EU. Switzerland isn't part of EU so it makes sense that on Swiss-reg'd planes there's the Swiss flag.

Just my opinion.

You sure they don't have the EU flag on one side and the British flag on the other, as British Midland had before the latest livery change ?

I thought it was because all of the EZY 319's are based out of GVA ?

We must not forget, that these carriers might not be under EZY ownership. They could well be just leased carriers and the owner is a non uk based owner. Preferrably then still in the EU.
And since EZY is not the owner EZY cant puit their own flags that shows the ownership

Just a theory from someone who deals a lot with leasing in the shipping industry

As far as I know, the flags on aircraft don't have much to do with the conutry they're registered in. If they did, BA aircraft would be registered in a country called "Royal Mail".  Big grin

The A319 pictured is UK registered so it could in theory display the Union Jack. From my understanding, there is no UK requirement to display the Union Jack on a UK registered aircraft. Similarly, there is no requirement for any aircraft registered within an EU member state to display the EU flag. As has been mentioned, it may just be that Easyjet wishes to come across as a European carrier rather than just a UK based carrier.

With bases expected to open throughout Europe, EZY is no longer just a UK airline.

Because they changed their minds! They chose to have union flags on their 737s, and now want EU flags on their A319s.
