Oddity At Kyip Today.

Sun May 02, 2004 10:01 am

I was driving on I-94 east this afternoon, and I saw a US Navy P-3 Orion landing at Willow Run Airport around 5:30pm this afternoon. Can anyone tell me what squadron it was or where it was flying in from? Any info please.

I wonder if it could have anything to do with Dubya coming to town on Monday? I'm not sure though.

I don't think it's anything to do with a presidential visit. I think it was either a fuel stop, or just an RON. I was just wondering if someone who it might be.

Did it land or just do a touch and go? Could have been a training flight. The military types do go in and out of civil airports that don't have too much traffic. I have seen military transports shooting landings at YIP before.

He also could have been picking up or dropping someone off. Many years ago I was at PIE and a P-3 landed and taxied to the ramp. The rear door opened and they put down a ladder and two guys got out with bags and the P-3 left.

I also know of at least one time when a P-3 landed at YIP with a mechanical problem and was assisted by Zantop who operate Electras.

By the way it's spelled Ypsilanti and it's about 30 miles west of Detroit.
