Probably some friends of mine and I will have a trip into USA the next summer!! We are thinking an itinerant holiday (I wish to see many american cities).... What do you think being the best carrier to USA?(only about direct flight from Italy); the best in all sides (cleanliness , catering , connections in the american Hubs , F/A courtesy, comforts on aboard and other parameters....)

Delta.
DL has direct connections from FCO (DL 70/71) to ATL. Flt 74 from ATL to MXP is available. You can pretty much go anywhere in the nation from Atlanta.

I say American Airlines
American has direct service from FCO (AA 111/110) to Chicago, which I personally think is a much nicer not to mention bigger city than Atlanta. Not to mention the fact that AA has a flight to and from NYC practically every hour form Chicago, (and we all know that New York is the greatest city on Earth). Or you could just fly directly to NYC and forget all the rest.

I'd say Delta also. Atlanta (IMO) is the best place to connect to basically everywhere in the US (considering your options) maybe you shouldn't book all your fligths yet. Book the section to ATL and back, and book sections of your travel at different times. You can try out more airlines, and with Air Tran and Jet Blue around, possibly cheaper!

I would say Continental (MXP/FCO-EWR) or US Airways (FCO-PHL).
Continental has great service and modern aircraft, and you can connect to points all across the Americas from EWR.
US Airways' A330's (aircraft used for FCO-PHL) are very nice, and you'll arrive into PHL's new international terminal. PHL has connections all over the eastern U.S. and several transcontinentals.

I'm with Boysteve! $5 for a G and T on AA, absolutely zilch on BA!! I'd be flying Alitalia. Or, if you don't mind a short layover, LH, AF, BA, KLM.

Hi guys , thanks to everyone;I don't know exactly where we'll arrive and which cities we'll visit ;but I think that our departing city will be at 80% Rome because my group comes from every part of Italy (from North to South) and also in order to choose between a lot of alternatives to USA in terms of carriers!
So from what I've read probably the better choices are AA or CO!!
I heard in Italy that DL is the one of the worst american airlines on atlantic service,(also if it's the most deep-rooted on european market!)but at the same time it seems very nice on internal flights ,is it true?

Go Continental!! Great 767/777 aircraft with PTVs, good legroom (32" on the 762), clean comfortable cabins and dependable service. They might make you pay for the alcohol, but who really cares?
From New York, you can go anywhere between Continental and jetBlue for low prices-- and NYC is of course a great place to start and end your trip to the states.

I can tell you that Delta has an awesome international service although I haven't flown on the European flights yet (I've only flown on Delta's Latin American flights.). Yeah, I know you have to pay for the alcohol, but overall their international service is great.
If Rome is your departure point, then you can fly to Atlanta, New York, or Cincinnati on Delta. All three cities can connect you to almost anywhere you want.

LX I say go with US Airways. I flew on US Airways A330 from PHL to SJU and it was the best flight I ever had. The service is great and you'll enjoy the VOD. Also the seating was very comfortable considering the fact that it was Economy!

I recommend you AZ, LH, or BA over any U.S. carrier. They are usually below in service (even CO). All three (as well any major European carrier) serve most major U.S. destinations.
But if you want to try a great U.S. airline, fly DL. Atlanta is a pretty nice hub, with connecting flights to almost anywhere in America!

I would say, def LX (Swiss Int. Air Lines)
Daily flights to JFK, BOS, MIA, ORD and 5 times a week to EWR
and great conx on AA due to cooperation....

I agree with oneworldman (Eusebio) fly AA ORD-FCO you can connect to any city out of ORD and while you are at it you can visit the second greatest city Chicago!
You got to be careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there.

I don't work for an airline and am not bias I think it's a matter of where in the US you want to vacation. If you fly a euro carrier (besides AZ) you may need to connect twice to get to your final destination. I would definately avoid that and take a US carrier. CO, DL, UA, AA they are all good alternatives. I always had good service on DL from ZRH-ATL. I've flown UA several times to IAD. CO is very good too to EWR. I'm not an AA flyer, but the three gateways I mentioned all offer good connections to where you will need to go.

Best European route network, best schedule, best hubs, best connections in the US, great maintenance, good fleet, wonderful and professional F/A´s overall just a very professional and great carrier!
All other US carriers are ok as well and I would take them in the following order:
UA
US
CO
AA
NW
I would prefer a US carrier over any European airline, because I think they´re just much more professional and the F/A´s just have a lot more personality and seem to be more passioned and skilled!!!
They sometimes might be old, but F/A´s at European carriers just can´t beat them in kindness and professionalism!!!

I'd go with SWISS. I've flown them to Newark and Miami a bunch of times and they're great. You can fly into ZRH from Milan or Rome.

Well I think that you should fly American Airlines. I happen to love AA and you may get a 777 but most likely a 767-300ER will take you to the US. Well, whatever airline that you choose have a great trip. However, you should look in to Lufthansa and connect in AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA and that WOULD BE BETTER THAN AA to tell you the truth.

My first choice would be to do a combination of AZ & DL. Maybe you can fly AZ to BOS (for example), then visit all the cities you want in the States and then fly back with DL from ATL or JFK.

I would go UAL, nothing special about European carriers and UAL is one of the best US fliers.
we fly more domestic widebodies than any other, 777's and 747's are nice to hop between hubs.

Honestly, if you are going to take a US carrier Delta would be the choice. From Rome you can go nonstop on Delta to: JFK, ATL, CVG. If New York is your final destination there you go. If you need to get anywhere else in the US, head on down to dixie and connect in ATL (busiest airport in the world in terms of number of pax).

Depends a lot on where you want to go in the U.S. But I'd definitely recommend Scandinavian, as they have flights to New York, Chicago and Seattle and probably some other places too. They mostly depart from EKCH (Copenhagen) so it's not such a bad commute from Italy 
They fly more or less brand new Airbus 330s and 340s on these legs. And if you don't want to pay for a business seat I can recommend Economy Extra as that gives you basically a Business Class seat but Economy Class food PLUS electrical power in your seat! And although it's not fully implemented yet, they're working on putting in 802.11b wireless networking in their planes so that at least within the near future, you won't have to be away from Airliners.Net even while flying.

Forgot to mention it's United's and Independence Air's hub. If you wish to go to east coast cities for cheap prices fly Independence, but if you wish to go midwest or west fly United.

If you wish to travel on a US carrier I would recommend Continental. The Newark hub is really very good. There are easy and inexpensive ways to get to New York City the Airtrain is easy cheap and fast. Continental has in recent years really gotten its act together going from the worst possible disaster of an airline to one that is dependable, predictable and pleasing. The service they provide is friendly and effecient. You can also go almost anywhere worth seeing from their Newark Hub. Check Continental.com for their last minute specials /they change every week/ they have some great deals for long weekends away from the big apple. Good luck in your quest and let us know who you chose and how it turned out.
