What's Your Favorite Airport?

What is your favorite airport and why? Mine is probably Dallas/Ft. Worth Intl. in Texas. It is nice and clean on the inside and it is almost impossible to get lost in. the people that work there are nice and their is plenty to do on those long layovers.

I LOVE YMX........But too bad........too far from my home town. I prefer to fly from YUL.......more convenient than YMX.

For me its HEL. Helsinki's airport is efficient, clean, and easy to arrive or depart from. I also like its ticket counter arrangement, security, and passport control. From gate to bus it only takes me 15 minutes on most days, after passing through passport control and baggage claim. It is a testament to good airport design.

I have loved that airport since the first time I have been into it. I have never been lost. I just think it is the best!! Big thumbs up

And also it has lots of airlines. Lots of LH 747's! Just a great variety of aircrafts types and airlines.

. Nobody cares about it. The only advantage that I can find is that, as the airport is small you could hardly get lost in it.

Definitely Dallas /Fort Worth. It's a huge airport, clean and efficient...

The most disappointing Mexico City and Caracas.

In North America, probably Pittsburgh for making connections, based on all the shopping available, but I'm afraid those options will be disappearing soon.... Therefore, SFO is a sentimental favorite, having grown up in the Bay Area, and I've always enjoyed BOS as well. Vancouver is also a great place to fly to.

Asia has some pretty cool ones in my opinion, with Incheon, Hong Kong and Kansai all pretty impressive. Hard to omit Dubai, as well, with their duty free!

As you can tell by my username, i like AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA alot as well as DFW. Both are really big and have lots of different airlines.

I've not been to a whole lot of airports in my day, but I do enjoy MSP. I like the spotting room they have above the D concourse (or is it E?). I also liked LGW. That might just be because of the little tram they have connecting the two sections of the south terminal. Smile

MIA since it is my home airport and it is not very nice inside but improving alot. And all the airlines there just great.

JFK: Just love the feeling of being there I really dont know why.

LAX: Love the terminal AA is in! Great!

NAS: Just like the airport it is a dump but still like being there.

I can not tell you about DFW because I have never been there. I like lots of airports but truly I can not give my opinion if I do not know them. Smile

I would like to ask you something. I will be on Frankfurt this summer, I do not know if it is possible for you to help me over there, or better if we could meet there. I will be on AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA from Saturday the 3rd to Monday the 5th of July. It would be great to know German spotters Big thumbs up

I have been at MAD and personally it was one of the worst airports I have been to in Europe. Also, in some discussions with some engineers we concluded that the design of the airport is horrible. But since MAD will have the new terminal and 2 more runways, I pray to be more functionally. 4 runways are just O.K. for MAD. And congratulations!!!. BWT Do you know if MAD will have Two Towers?. The actual one is on the worst position ever build. It has more than the 40% without visibility of the terminal.

Difficult question!
I like dubai (DBX), excellent duty free but those golf carts that charge around will take everybody out! MAD was nice too but only when the travellators are working, otherwise its a long walk with a suitcase. LHR is a dirty unwelcoming mess. For me SIN is the best, with a swimming pool to use on those longer stopovers it can't be beaten

MHT..10 minutes from home..get them flying near the house on base for
35..and can be in the parking garage 10 minutes after leaving home..and,
makes a nice sidetrip on the way home from the mall.

2nd favorite would be NAS..favorite destination for my wife and me.

I would recognize the architecture of MCI anywhere Elwood. I've been to Kansas City enough times to be able to recognize it in my sleep.

As for my favorites, I would probably give a nod to ATL as for a major airport it is nicely laid out and people can get most anywhere there with the trams. Plus, getting to it doesn't seem to be a problem. DFW is a nice looking airport, but I don't like going there so much as I don't like the way the gates are arranged and one has to walk a long time even for close gates.

My own home airport Omaha Eppley (OMA) is another one of my favorites as its a nice mid-sized airport and handles the traffic it has rather well and in a friendly manner and has a very good selection of airlines for its size. But, it doesn't have the traffic variety that a major international airport does for obvious reasons.

Another favorite is San Antonio (SAT). The two terminals are like a study in then and now. The old terminal was around when I was a kid and continues to have that nice relaxed atmosphere that it seemed to have back in the 70s when it was the only terminal (mainly due to the number of gates in it). The new terminal looks rather bland (but modern) on the outside, but inside you get all the features of a modern airport and the crowds.

Other than that, I vote for JNB (and I haven't even seen the new domestic terminal yet!)...

All time favorite: ATL. Despite the crowds and delays, it's layed out in a logical manner and the people mover makes things convenient. The volume of flights and multitude of destinations gives ATL travelers many options. Plus, spotting there can be fun.

Others, in no particular order...

CMH: Easy to travel out of. Very few delays, and when there are delays, they don't last very long. The new terminal is nice, too.

CVG: Very new and convenient. Really makes layovers easy and negotiating the concourses is not hard (its a bit harder if you're connecting on Comair).

CLT: The only delays I've had there were from weather. I like the layout of the airport and the rocking chairs they had in between concourses (its been a couple years since my last trip there...do they still have them?)

MCO: The people mover is convenient and the airport is pretty new and clean.

Eduardo Lepe and all other spotters out there,

It has gotten a lot harder to spot at Frankfurt recently. After the September 11th attacks, they shut down the observation deck in both Terminals 1 & 2 since you come to close proximity with the aircraft. All the terrorist threats these days and they don't want to take any chances. I have however found another place outside of the airport where you can take pictures. It it near the entrance to the US Rhein-Main Airforce Base opposite the airport (they both share runways). Before you drive up to the main gate, you park on the side of the road and you walk about 200 meters on a trail and you end up next to the south runway and can photograph planes taking off or landing that way.

I suppose yes, but what I can tell you is this: The last year I was into the terminal waiting for my flight connection (MEX AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA FCO). And I asked a F/A and a policeman if I could take pictures, if there was not any kind of problems. And he told me that I could take pictures without any problem. (But this was before (March 11th, Spain). I think things are going worst. And also I was chatting with another spotter in AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA and told me that it is 100% legal to take pictures, but local authorities can ask you for you ID. But anyway you are the one that lives over there. I will send you an e-mail. If you could show me your new spott place I will appreciate it a lot Big thumbs up

. I was thinking of taking pictures all over runway 18/36 but really I do not know where or at what time is the best for it.

Yeah i suppose the Madrid Bombings really screwed us over and ruined peoples chances of getting good photos FROM THE TERMINAL!!! i think a good thing to do would to just add a covering over the observation deck (glass maybe) and open it up again. But i tend to doubt it.

No offense taken. However, there are lots of different opinions about Madrid Barajas. I´ve heard many people that happen to like it a lot, and some others that just don´t. About it´s present condition, I must accept that some parts of T1 need refurbishment, but don´t see anything wrong with other areas of T1, as well as T2 and T3...they look big, nice and modern enough for me. I´ve seen other big airports that look a lot worse than that. Last week I came back from a short trip to the US and I was really impressed with how old and rundown the terminals at O´Hare look. My flight arrived at International Terminal and the ride back home departed from terminal 3. Both terminals looked worse that Madrid´s T1 (ORD´s T3 is being remodelled...it´s about time). I also went to Cleveland-Hopkins and I was impressed (and I even talked about that with my american friends that took me to the airport) when I saw the floor carpets fixed with duct tape in the entire check-in area. How come they don´t have changed those carpets? It looked awful.
On the other hand I had a very positive impression of MDW. Kind of "crazy" but very nice and modern terminal.

Back to MAD and it´s possibilities of becoming one of the best airports in Europe...with the new terminal facilities I can assure you that it will be one of the best.

Ok, here are further points for Frankfurt, my home airport, and AMS, best one for planespotters, absolutely great.

Frankfurt T1 terrace is open, and will be so until October, then (probably) permanently closed, so use it while you still can!!
