Surinam Airways 747-300 Roll Out Today!

It just rolled out today at AMS. Ok it's not the classic surinam airways c/s but we knew it was gonna be white like this. No reg has been applied yet, because the deal with surinam is not fully completed yet. As for now it's still under dutch register as PH-BUW

Nice photos. I agree that it would have been nice to see the old Surinam paint scheme, but this still isn't a bad looking aircraft.

How will it be configured inside? 2 or 3 class and will it be used as a combi? I think it is one, anyone know? I like the paint job, very fresh!

It is so nice to see my scketch applied in real..., anyways,

From what i understand from SLM is that they will have a 2 class (Bus and Eco), and pretty much the same as how it used to be on KLM, when they used the 743 on the PBM route. I hope they can give the people a bit more room though, that would be so nice, esp with those high fares on the route.

GO SLM, and hope to see you (PZ-TCM) soon in the air...

Looks a little bit like retro-70's colors with all that yellow and orange. That's fine with me, gotta be happy that there are still a couple -300/-200SUD's flying around. Big grin

Yes, a little retro but nice and clean. Can anyone venture if the prospective loads on this route will justify this size of aircraft? I do remember quite awhile ago it being discussed but could not find it in a search.

Why would they operate the aircraft between Amsterdam and Panama City? Or are you thinking of Paramaribo (PBM)?

What routes will this aircraft operate? Are the loads on Surinam Airways more leisure-oriented or business-oriented? What kind of service do they offer?

There were already PY cockpit and cabin crewmembers flying the AMS-Paramaribo route together with KL crewmembers. If I am correct it is a 50/50 deal, just like KL had with the now defunct ALM Antillean Airlines on the routes between AMS to the Dutch Caribbean and flights between the Dutch Caribbean to LIM, Quito and Guayaquil.

My question is if the crew will be completely seperate now, or still work together?

Yesterday they painted on the reg/flag and some other details. WHat struck me as odd was that they forgot to paint over some of the klm blue Smile

The font used reminds me of an airline from the 70s-80s but can't really remember. Does anyone know?

Btw, I like the colours a lot. Very nice!

A fine aircraft and nice recognizable colorscheme. Will be great seeing the so much missed orange SLM aircraft at Schiphol again! (Wasn´t the old DC8 their last a/c seen in AMS?). Good idea of securing the PBM-AMS v.v. route now KLM is in french hands  Smile

Yeah the DC-8 was their last a/c here, I think they stopped flying in 1989 or so, after the crash.

Forgot to mention btw, that the interior is basically the same as KLM used to have it. In fact the only change I could see were the headrest covers Smile

Oh yeah... Tim you are right! That must have been when the DC8 "Anthony Nesty" of them crashed at Zanderij airport PBM on approach. Wasn´t that aircraft full of soccerplayers flying over to Surinam to play a soccermatch? I remember it was a tragic accident, and was the reason they stopped flying to AMS. Wasn´t this DC8 their only long range aircraft they had left?

This in fact is my first forum discussion here on a-net, just joined as a member today. I am dutch, but moved to Iceland one year ago  Smile

Which flew until 1991??

I don't know the exact details of the crash, as I was still a kid at that time Smile

Happy they are back now and I hope they'll be around for a long time.
