Have a look at that wing! It is as perfectly shaped as on all widebody Airbus jets! Knowing each plane is a beautiful lady somehow, don't you just love the voluptuous curvature of all these lines... Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I really cant believe it. W Wow!

W. The wings look quite similar to the A340's. I thought the wings were going to be much larger, but from another angle it is probably larger .W Wow!

W. Airbus ( mankind) has taken a every extraordinary leap. Most people never thought of seeing a "super jumbo" anytime soon( like me) and there it is. What a wonderful aircraft.

Have any airports started to make gate adjustments for this bird? Something like a hi-low gate system or are the passengers going to have to use the stairs in the aircraft?

Now the next step, Getting it off the ground. It looks like it only has 2 sets of main landing gear and one nose gear. Where is the other sets of landing gear. Don't they have LG similar to the 747.

The A380 does not require a two-level gate system. It is designed to board just as quickly as a 747 through two doors on the lower deck (similar height as a 747). The second level boards through the 1st door and uses the "grand staircase" to get to the uppeor deck. The lower deck passengers board through the 2nd door.

I dont understand the facination with people calling it ugly...big friggan whoop. I think the poeple calling it ugly are the sames ones who all along never wanted to see this plane take shape. Now that it is, ugly is about the only word coming from their mouths.

First industry was talking about EK but they weren't interested. So SQ will be first carrier getting the 380, skyguy.

From what I've read, this plane is just to be used for the static testing, so it need not be ready to fly. That's probably why it doesn't have all of its landing gear installed.

And the only reason it's ugly is because of the placement of the cockpit. Having the windows so low on such a bulbous plane makes it look like the Hunchback of Notre Dame or something. Smile

Corey07850: You hit the nail right on the head, thats exactly what I was thinking. Would have been much better if they positioned the cockpit on the upper deck 747 style. I guess they wanted to be different or perhaps it was aerodynamically more efficient to do it the way it currently is.

Yeah, I agree with the BUFF comment...spent three years in Minot...they are definitely BUFF's, but they are still a very potent piece of aircraft for the military, and I would imagine that while the A380 may/may not be the prettiest aircraft in the world, it will still be an important part of airline fleets...if it will fly...but then again, look at the B-52...proof positive anything will fly if you strap enough engines to it. (The B-52 has 8)

In regards to the A380, it [finally] is taking shape! Can't wait to take this sucker to Deutschland mit Lufthansa! YAY 600 people with nothing to do for 8 hours! But I love LH! Does anybody know when each airline is supposed to take delivery of their 'crafts? Also, where each plans to fly them? I think I'll make a new thread for that one...

Congratulations to Airbus for making one hell of a sleek jumbo, albeit nowhere near the contour of the 747. But still, that A380 will make for one hell of a picture, mixed in with all those 747s at LAX and SFO!

As for the ugly thing... Well ugliness or beauty are purely subjevtive and can only be based on opinion. I don't think that the A380 is ugly , but there are plenty who would disagree. I also think that the B757-300 is one bird that wasn't blessed by good looks and there'd be plenty to disagree with me there too. Take it for what it is... just an opinion.
