Is Delta Down-sizing Business Elite?

Fri Jun 18, 2004 12:17 am

This morning I was looking to book a flight from TPA-LAX for next February. Some of the flights offered on Delta.com were connections that offered Business Class service. Anytime I have the opportunity, I always try to book on those flights for the extra room and comfort. I noticed on the seating map, that the Biz cabin is down to a single cabin seating 36 with rows 7, 10, and 11 gone. Last time I flew the international 767, there were 48 seats.

Coach, which used to begin at row 20 on the international 767's now shows starting at row 15.

Is that something that is just happening or have I been in the dark?

All 763ER's now have 36 BizElite seats (rows 1-6) instead of 48.

Except for the ex-Gulf Air ones (ships 1501 - 1506) and the ex-OZ (ship 1521) one, all of which have 30 BizElite seats (rows 1-5)

Oh no! Is my favorite seat gone? The little Biz Elite cabin behind the galley? They took it away! Rats!

That little Biz Elite area behind the galley was the best! Nice and quite. I will miss it.

Yeah, they reduced the size of the Biz Elite cabin and made the small area behind the galley the crew rest area with four coach-type seats with footrests for the f/a's and one biz elite seat for the relief pilot. The economy cabin now seats 162 I believe, up from 142. It stinks for the non-revs since there are now less seats available in the premium cabin. Also, that small second cabin compartment usually was were the non-revs were seated since those seats were assigned last allowing the crew to sit there if the flight was not full.

Did Delta also cut the number of Biz Elite seats on the 777?

No, the 777's remained unchanged in Business Elite Seat count as a result of the BusinessElite downsizing, however due to the overhead crew rest on the 3 777P aircraft the 777's lost 2 seats (52 down to 50). There is no plan to reduce capacity on the 777's.
