Delta B737-200 Routes

Sat Jun 19, 2004 9:02 am

What routes does the Delta B737-200 fly? I would really like to get on one before it gets too late.

I think there's one going ATL to ORD and back ...

I wasn't able to check the model, when I was on it, but it was a 737 and very, very short ...

Very last row on that thing was loud, to say the least.

Although nowhere near DC9 level ...

DL uses their 732s on a handful of routes out of ATL and CVG. I believe they are based out of CVG. I flew one STL-ATL not too long ago. From your location, if you wanted to fly DL somewhere, I noticed they are using them EWR-CVG (but EWR is probably a bit of a hike from ISP....)

Come out to CVG. They are just about as common as MD-88s these days. And I'm not complaining  Smile

I think PHL - CVG is a 732. You might be able to get out to PHL from Long Island, right?

I did some searching and came up with a list of 732 destinations, just from ATL (at least one 732 flight per day, many of these destinations see other fleet types too...): MOB, TUL, CAE, CLE, CVG, STL, GSP, BTR, RIC, SDF, GRR, ORD, MSP, MKE, IAH, AUS, SAT, YYZ, YUL, MKE, OMA, OKC. I think there's an even larger list from CVG... The 732 is still alive and well in Delta's fleet!

From CVG:

STL, MCI, MSP, MKE, ORD, IND, SDF, LEX, BNA, IAH, SAT, MSY, BHM, ATL, RDU, GSO, RIC, DCA, PHL, LGA, CLE, GRR, ALB, TPA, RSW, SRQ, MIA, and PBI.

That's what I could find from CVG. Hope this helps!

I was indeed lucky enought (well I specificially chose to fly via PHL for this) to get on DL's 732 from CVG to PHL in April.
What a great ride it was. Maybe my last time on that great bird...

Curbsrule, I forgot about CLT. I believe the lone 738 flight is gone, leaving the 732 as the only mainline bird used by Delta at that station.

You can also add IND to the list of destinations that see a couple of 732s a day from ATL...

I think Delta will keep the 732 in their fleet for the foreseeable future. Their 732s were built in the mid to late 80's and are not all that old. I believe I remember hearing the oldest bird still operating in Delta's fleet is actually a 767-200 (the Spirit of Delta?).

Sort of a side-note--I sometimes go down to CLT to spot. They have a great parking place that's right next to Rwy 18R. I love it when those 732's throttle up and roll down the runway. They are really loud when you're that close to the runway. I'll be taking one from CLT to ATL at the end of July when I fly down to MIA for vacation. I can hardly wait Big grin

Hi everybody above, I found a few more flights with Delta's 732's from CVG that could be added to Jeremy's list: STL- 1 roundtrip daily,Birmingham-2 roundtrips daily,San Antonio-also 2 daily,Chicago O'Hare-5 roundtrips daily, and Washington Reagan-3 daily roundtrips.Source:June 2004 OAG North American Executive Flight Guide. Reminds me of when Delta retired the 727's not that long ago(April 2002 I believe-someone pls correct me).I was lucky enough to be on one of the "3-holers" on a DFW-CVG flight. I spoke to the pilot on the way out, mentioning I hadn't seen one or flown on a 727 in many years and he laughed and told me to take a good look as it may be the last time I see one. This was 2/02 and they retired the last one 4/02.What great birds they were and still are. Cheers all! Tim

I'm surprised that no has mentioned that Huntsville gets 732s from time to time. They're fairly well mixed in with the 738, while MD-88s are still the most common aircraft.

How many 737-200s does DL currently have?
How many of these are left over from the WA merger?
Are all/any DL 737-200s hushkitted? (don't see them anymore out west...)
Do the DL 737-200s have hot/high airport penalties? Hence the reason they are not deployed further west than SAT? I seem to remember a factoid from some time ago that the -200 needs alot of asphalt when it's 35d at 1200m/asl.

i was suprised that the flights out of SLC are operated by 733s and not 73Ss...but they are both similar aircraft. The former DLX are 733s, rgiht? do they have first class removed still?

Perhaps the lack of 732s at SLC is due to trouble operating at high airports. SLC isn't that high (4200 feet I think), but DL certainly serves some airports where elevation is more of an issue than at SLC.

Yes, they all are.

No, The DLX were 737-200s.

do they have first class removed still?
No they all have 8 first class seats with the exeption of ship 382 which has 12.

Yes DL serves airports higher than SLC but you won't see a DL737-200 there either. I'm not sure of the numbers but the altitude is the factor. If you have 737-300s that can safely operate out of a high altitude airport without restrictions, why would you use a 737-200 that can't? This is the same reason that DL doesn't service SLC with the Md88 only the Md90.

Did Delta fit all of their 732's with first class right after Delta Express went out of business?

And this is way off the subject, but is Richmond/Williamsburg Airport close to Newport News/Williamsburg Airport because they seem far away on a map, but they both are part of Williamsburg.

The last time I flew on a Delta 732 was in 1994, HSV-ATL, and I vividly remember that thing creaking and groaning like mad when we made turns on the ground. Must've been one of the older ones.

We get them into BNA from ATL and CVG...

Can anyone give me some more information on this topic about certain aircraft only operating at airports below a certain altitude ASL? Kinda curious about that...particularly the part about the MD90 being able to go places that the MD88 can't?

Thanks,
Matt
