Sources please !!!
3 hours have passed since this the hijacking apparently happened.
I cannot find anything on German TV or in the internet.
If it really was a hijacking I'm sure it would be all over the media.

Bavarian radio news station "Bayern 5" talks about 3 hijackers, n24 TV news station is talking about one.

Departure: 20.25, hijacking 20.41, someone entered the cockpit and told the crew there was a bomb on the plane and forced the crew to return to the airport. Number of people on board ist reported with 158 - all safe.

The reason for the hijacking and the nationality of the hijacker are not sure at the moment. The (one?) man was arrested when trying to leave the plane through the front door.

This is from the official Munich Airport website - news section: (GERMAN, English below!)

The aircraft landed safely and without problem around 9:30 p.m. with 150 passengers and seven crew aboard. Several minutes after the aircraft landed, a male passenger sustained injuries after apparently falling out of one of the aircraft´s opened doors and onto the apron. The passenger has been taken into custody by the police and has received medical treatment at Munich Airport´s on-site medical center.

The entire crew and all passengers have safely deboarded the plane since landing and have been returned to the terminal, where they are currently being questioned by the authorities regarding the incident. An ensuing search of the aircraft found no bomb on board.

Sounds really strange to demand going back to the origin airport, not what i understand by hijacking, and leaving through the front door?. Well it might be scaring when you are in the a/c but sounds more like a very sick person

Dutch 'teletext' says it was a 28 year old Turk who tried to hijack the plane, but the pilot returned and the plane was stormed by special forces, the 150 passengers were not harmed and police denies terrorist motives.

From what I saw on TV this morning and read in the morning newspapers it was something personal.
The turk had probably some personal problems and wanted to get it out on everybody else...
And there was no bomb. It was only a hoax.

Today several German media sources are reporting that there was only one hijacker. He was a Turk national who had to return to Turkey because his asylum in Germany ran out. Once in the air he changed his mind and told the cabin crew that there was a bomb onboard. That's why the captain returned to MUC. The hijacker didn't make it to the cockpit.
Back on the ground he let the passengers leave the aircraft and tried to escape through another door, which resulted in a broken foot. Airport Police arrested him.

Indeed a single 28-year old Turk, who was living in Germany seperate from his wife, who also lived in Germany. He had to go back to Turkey because his visa expired, but his wife refused to join him. He claimed he had an explosive in his mobile phone, but no bomb was found and he was not armed at all. The return to Munich was the decision of the pilot alone.

The explosion and this attempted hijacking are not related in my opinion. Its in the news here in Turkey too looks like the guy wanted to get some attention to his visa problem. The captain madea correct decision to return back to the origin and land ASAP,to secure the airplane and its passengers. For some reason he is either jumped or thrown out from the door resulting some injuries and eventual arresting by the police.

The other incident is the airplane was incoming from İzmir. The security in İstanbul is annoyingly too tight due to NATO summit. The so called explosion was a result of 2 grams of C4 which is not possible to detect with the screeners. Obviously an extremist trying to provoke NATO summit.

The media and the responsible people should not give more attention than it deserves to this incident, overrating these kind of incidents will serve only the purpose of the bad guys.

I understand that reinforced cockpit doors are required for US airspace, which a shorthaul LH aircraft won't enter.
BA took the decision to fit these doors to all the fleet, not just longhaul.

That is correct. The TSA and the FAA have required all cabin doors on US aircraft and aircraft entering US airspace to be reinforced and secure (actually a complete 180 from the original regulations). Airlines outside of the states are not bound by these rules except in instances where their particular regulatory agency as adopted these new rules as well.

GDB, the "hijacked" aircraft was a FreeBird, not a Lufthansa plane. However, I´m not sure about LH´s policies concerning locked cockpit doors.

I suggest that every country realize that they could be under target...hijackers will use allies of the U.S. if they can't use the U.S. itself...tighten security Europe! It is something that will save your lives and prevent these sorts of things from happening!

THRUST

AMEN. I would hate to see the Reichstag burning --again. This time because of a different type of terrorist. This incident should serve as a warning that anyone can be a target for terrorism. (I know that wasn't the case this time, but it proves it COULD have been.) Europe doesn't seem to be acting very rapidly with forming their rapid reaction force, either. My guess is Euro's are too big to swallow their pride an realize that "dumb American hick of a president" is right on defense and terrorism....

Hey, where is this thread going to?

As per the last (good researched) Article on ''www.sueddeutsche.de'' (which is the most popular newspaper in southern Germany- and no 'Tits-Sex-Rock'n'Roll' paper at all, but offering real good research...) - Link is unfortunately only in German: ""http://www.sueddeutsche.de/muenchen/artikel/408/34374/"" this has been just a crazy guy, who went nuts after flying back to Turkey, after his Visa expired and he could not find his married wife here.

From my point of view, there is no talk about security on German Airports, Missile Pods, Burning Reichstag, enforced cockpit-doors (there's even no hint, if the guy ever was in direct contact with the cockpit-crew) and so on......
And I've got no clue, how other Airlines might react about mentally sick guys on board. I think, the crew reacted correctly to return, and however, after reading the article, the Hijacker was arrested, after he was kicked out of the A/C by another passenger...

So please let's stop about discussing this incident in relationship with 9/11 or wrong or faulty security issues in Europe.....

BTW - 9V-SPV: LH's policy for the cockpit-doors is locked-locked-locked, as far as I understand the official rules from LBA and LH-internal

According to Media releases two Luftwaffe jets from the Neuburg/Donau airbase were sent up and had the Airbus in sight during its approach back to MUC. These two jets (Phantom) are the so called "Alarmrotte" (QRA), one of these is held in northern Germany (Wittmund airbase), one in the southern part of the country at Neuburg airbase.

Interesting: Its only one week ago new German air safety law makes a clear base for armed action against civil aircraft in German airspace, a hardly discussed law, because some people including military pilots see problems with German constitutional law.

Maybe you got me wrong: There are two "Alarmrotte" in Germany, Wittmund (north) and Neuburg (south)

EACH of them are two Phantom equipped with Sidewinders.

So the two Neuburg Phantoms were in the air.

For those interested here is the story from witnesses.

The hijacker is dumped by his wife.Called her last time before boarding to the plane. She refused him once again. So he goes nuts and started shouting"I have nothing to loose, there is a a bomb planted in this mobile phone, stay calm I will not hurt any of you"

He wanted to enter the cockpit but it was locked with reinforced door(All Turkish registered commercial planes are equipped with reinforced doors which is kept locked at all times during flight). The FA's told whats happening to the cockpit via interphone. The captain decided to return back to the origin(which was nearest and also most suitable) On the ground when they were waiting for the stairs some other passenger approached him and kicked him out from the open door.He sustained some injuries because of the fall.

This incident has no relation with Al-kaida or any terrorist organisations.Anybody can go crazy during flight and act like this. There isn't any screening machine which can detect the passengers who can go nuts during the flight. He didn't had weapons of any kind with his possession also.
