Today, June 30th I was at Plaza Satelite up on the north of Mexico City. Airplanes were approaching every 1 minute, normal traffic, then a huge dark, four engines airplane flew over. It was not any USA military airplane I know, nor Mexican. It looked like a B747 but wider and shorter. It's tail looked like a B717. It was at 13:00 hrs local time on final approach.
Could any one tell me what kind of aircraft it was?
I know Russian cargo airplanes come often to MEX.

I don't know of any russian cargo airplane that is dark, T-tale, and 4 engined. I'd say you were looking at either a C-5 or a C-17, or outside chance possibly a C-141.

Like what DLKAPA said, it is most likely a USAF C-17, C-5, or C-141.

It would have been an Il-76, as the Il-62 has four-engines mounted at the rear like a VC-10, really nothing like a 747.
Civil engineering isn't about making things perfect...just better.

I was just about to post a topic about the same aircraft, but Anthony beat me to it.
I was at the airport at that exact time, spotting at the top of the domestic terminal parking structure. Suddenly, I saw this big dark aircraft you're talking about, turning final for 05R.
I had my scanner with me. It was a USAF C-17, registration 21101, based at Charleston. Callsign was Ridge 1817.
It landed on 05R at exactly 1310 local, so there's no doubt we're talking about the same plane.
21101 parked at the FAM ramp 8 minutes after its landing.
Does anyone have any idea about the purpose of this flight? They didn't have an assigned stand for the C-17, it had to wait for about 3 minutes on E taxiway, waiting for ground to assign a parking position, which ended up being at the FAM ramp. Maybe it wasn't an expected visit?

The building I work in in Charleston is about a mile off of the approach end of rwy 21 at CHS, and directly under the flight path. The C-17s are at about 500 ft when they go over the building. Even inside you can plainly hear them.
Seems real odd to see them flown more like fighters than heavy transports. I was used to seeing the C-5s when I worked at NAS Atlanta, and there is a big difference in the way they're flown. Really neat to see six of the C-17s lined up one behind the other practicing assault landings.

Actually, I believe the engines are military versions of the PW2037/2040 used on 757s.

Saw it this morning at MEX, parked right behind the AM hangars at FAM I suppose, as I took off on Azteca's inagural flight to Veracruz (I'll write a trip report later, it was awesome!). I came back from Veracruz at around 11:45 AM and it was gone.
I have no idea about the purpose of its visit, though.

I remember when I was in Charleston a few years ago on the Yorktown Aircraft carrier, the C-17s were constantly flying over, doing their turns over the bay, heading north, then made a left turn into the base.
I saw one at night as I was coming into Charleston and I couldn't figure out what it was by the lighting configuration.

Yes the C-17 is quite an amazing aircraft. Used to fly on them quite often while I was in the Army. Hopping round Europe to visit my wife in England and on missions to the Balkans. Something else to be on one while you are flying into a hostile area.

The MD17 is AFAIK still available but noone ever ordered it. Boeing is kinda low-key with it.

Of course I know that our air force is small, but it is far from being a 1940's force. I know we could have a bigger one, but at what price? Just the upkeep of a single Mirage squadron costs the same as buildin 100km of an 8 lane motorway.
We have a functioning air force which can claim in their records to have fought bravely in World War II, the first recorded air combat (in 1913 durin the Revolucion) and one of the first air-sea attacks when a French mercenary pilot bombed a warship in Guaymas.
I would love to see more capable aircraft in the FAM but there are much bigger priorities. Anyway, having two squadrons of F-5E's, AWACS capability, an important assault and combat helicopter force (with Mi 17's, UH-60's) together with an increased C-130 force has nothing to do with the 1940's!!!!
