Your topic is a bit misleading. It sounded as if NIKI wanted to acquire 70 aircraft.
Which would have been quite a surprise.

means in short words:

lauda (NIKI) and hunold (Air Berlin) are in talks with boeing (hunold) and airbus (lauda) about 70 planes + 40 options for both airlines. Deliveries between 2005 and 2011. 60 planes are planned for Air Berlin, 10 for Niki.

Niki must be expanding heaps if they need to order around 70 new planes as the airline has only been operating since the start of the this year.

Only up to 10 aircraft of this order are intended for HG (see original post).

Are the AB 738s on operating leases or what? These planes are pretty new. I'm not sure why they would want to replace them so early.

To all:

I don't get part of this; perhaps some of our German or Austrian friends can help. I thought Niki Lauda was the owner/part owner of Lauda Air. What is NIKI then? An LCC susidiary?

What type of a/c is Air Berlin talking to Boeing about? 737 variants? I am currently buiding a model of a 738 in Air Berlin the maroon/white w/ logo winglets!

Austrian Airlines (group) is now the owner of Lauda Air. Niki himself has nothing to do with the Airline "Lauda Air" anymore.
"Niki" is his new company founded on the rest of Aero Lloyd (Austria) when they went bancrupty.
