However, I wasn't able to find info on an airport in the Detroit area called something like Oakland Orion Airport or Orion Oakland Airport. I found it on a map once and it looked as though it was on the lefthand side of M-24 a few miles north of the I-75 / M-24 interchange. This is in Oakland County, MI. Does anyone have any information on this place that I can't find anywhere?

Yes, I love that site. Very interesting. However, the info can only cover what has been contributed, so perhaps nothing has come in to the site about Orion yet. It appears the airport you want to know about has two names. "Oakland-Orion Airport" was also known as "Allen Airport" in an article published in the February 1970 issue of EAA Sport Aviation. Off subject a bit, but does anyone know of a website that told the history of Airport Terminals. I can't seem to remember how or where I stumbled upon it, but it had a lot of good material.

I'm starting to think that MSN is becoming an "Abandoned & Little-Known Airfield." We get like NOTHING out here! It gets so lonely without big(ger) jets. The biggest thing I have seen here is a DC-9. Woopee! *rolling eyes* Oh well, the take offs/landings are amazing. I guess it is better than CWA.

I can't find anything on the airport or it's operations, but I did find it listed on a topo map circa 1970. Airport shown center http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?t=2&s=15&x=49&y=739&z=17&w=2
However, if you look closer, the airport looks like it was replaced sometime in the mid 70s, early 80s by what looks to be a distibution center? again shown center. http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?t=2&s=12&x=393&y=5914&z=17&w=2
Aerial photos from 1999 and 2002 show traces in the southeast corner of what was probably an airport, but nothing definative.

That "distribution center" I believe is GM's Orion assembly plant, so maybe thats what became of the airport. Does anyone know what next Detroit area airport is slated for destruction?

I'll throw another Detroit area long gone airport at ya. Haggerty Field which was located at Ford Road and Wyoming in Dearborn. I remember seeing it shown on some old road maps but I never was able to find anything about it.

Looks like Oakland-Orion started in the late 1940s as Allen or Allen's-- no paved runways until later. It's still on the 1976 chart (2400? ft runway 18/36) but that GM plant is on the 1983 topo.
