Air Tran Airbus Lost Cowling

Wed Aug 18, 2004 10:13 am

I just got an email from a retired COA 777 pilot that showed pics of an Airtran A320 with the cowling missing from it's left engine. There were three pics of this, one at what appeared to be a relatively high flight level, then two at the gate.

Anyone know when and where this occurred ?

Matthew.

I have them. Got them through a chain e-mail. Not sure I should "re-transmit" without permission though.

No idea who shot them.

The window shot is pretty crazy. It's like that Twilight Zone movie except without the gremlin.

Ryan Internationl operates the 320's in their fleet so I guess they are not Air Tran a/c......

There was a long talk about this when an IB 320 had both it's engine cowling fall off mid flight. It was said that there was some troublesome thing that a guy on the ground had to secure and that it could come undone easily esp. during in flight.

Iowaman, Ryan actually operates A320's for AirTran right now until AirTrans gets their 737NG's up and running.

These aren't the pics in question but it is the plane. I have the pics on my computer at work.

Topic: Engine Cowling Falls Off Of AirTran Flight operated by Ryanair Int

And here's the actual topic that was posted when it happened. This was the one I was referring to. It has been locked so no need to reply.

Thanks again.

Is there an A320 that hasn't lost a cowling?

Anyone noticed how funny the Iberia pics are?? you've got a torn-off cowling, and right beside it, a sticker that says "CFM-The Power of Flight!" Big grin
