Never heard of this award myself, but it just goes to show that DXB, SIN and KUL have consistantly ranked among the world's best airports. Well done  Big thumbs up

KL International Airport has been ranked third for Best Airport Worldwide 2003 in a survey by AETRA - a customer satisfaction benchmarking programme. Dubai and Singapore emerged as first and second respectively in the ranking. The AETRA awards ceremony took place at the ACI World Conference in Lisbon, Portugal, from Oct 13-15, 2004. For the previous year, KLIA was voted fifth best airport worldwide.

The programme was previously run by International Air Transport Associaton (IATA) and was known as IATA Global Airport Monitor Customer Satisfaction Benchmarking Programme. Due to the joint venture between IATA and Airports Council International (ACI) in December 1993, the programme had been renamed to Airport Service Performance Insight, which was branded AETRA - a Latin word for clear skies. The programme is conducted in a form of self-completion quarterly survey by passengers. KLIA joined the programme in 2002. For last year, 30 international airports had participated in the survey.

"This is another great achievement for KLIA as it shows that our tireless effort to continuously improve our services and facilities is being acknowledged worldwide," MAHB managing director Datuk Bashir Ahmad. KLIA was also voted third in the Favourite Asian Airport category in the fourth annual TIME Readers' Travel Choice Awards survery and emerged second in the best airport 2004 of the Telegraph Travel Awards 2004 recently.

Although I have never of this award either, in all honestly I never expected KUL to be in the top three for any award. I have heard KUL to be a great facility and very convenient however when I think of the top Asian airports I immediately assume SIN and HKG.

Kudos to KUL for being recognized by the big guns!... I'll be checking it out for myself in January  Big thumbs up
Its better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than be in the air wishing you were on the ground. Fly safe!
