A friend of mine who works of AA once submitted a suggestion that AA drop the double As in its advertising, schedules, and other printed materials. He thinks that AA could save money on ink by cutting back on the use of capital As.

Obviously, AA didn't go for it.

I think it's pretty dAArned humorous. Sometimes it's tough to write AA sentence with AA bunch of AAs in it. EventuAAly they stAArt showing up everywhere AAnd you cAAn write AA fAAirly long line of crAAp. SAAmAAtAAmAAs yAAAA cAAn sAAbstAAtAAtEE AA fAAr AAll thAA AAthAAr VAAwAAls AAnd pAAs AAvAAryAAnAA AAff. Big grin

Edit: Translation - Sometimes you can substitute AA for all the other vowels and piss everyone off.

First of all, AA doesn't use "AA" everywhere.. only in program names, etc. that have significance to the airline like ... "AAdavantage", "Net SAAver", "AAirpass", and "Business ExtrAA" ... Admirals Club doesn't even have the double-A. In other words, it's not annoying nor do they need to think of something new.

If they dropped the AA spelling, we here in Miami would have to rename our airport from MIAA to MIA!

There's one method of getting by without pissing people off. You simply write your sentences which do not include even one occurrence of the first English letter. Like I'm doing here. Not difficult when you put your mind to it...  Big grin

OB1504,

Two things that rAAised my AAwarenes:

1. June 1982 DFW - MCO AA B727, after a breakfast of airplane pancakes, the stewardesses handed out hand outs of a new program known as AAdvantage. Some guy on the other side of the aisle starts in on the F/A about how that was the dumbest thing he ever heard of and why would anyone ever join up. My brother and I were on our way to watch the 4th launch of Space Shuttle Columbia. This was my first trip thru DFW, just months after Braniff went bust.

2. AAloha was the healine of AA adds promoting Hawaiian service, with 747s if I remember correctly.

I find it AAmazing that there AAre all these super tAAlented mAArketing guys sitting AAt home when they should be in DAAlas working on the next CAAmpaign for AAmerican AAirlines.

As an AAdvantage member and exclusive customer of AA (because of their service to LIM), I think their marketing is very clever and very effective. So much so, people who consider it "stupid" feel they must still post a comment on this thread.
