Horizon Air And Embaer 170
At 1:16pm while spotting at PDX, I had the honor of catching the arrival of a prototype Embaer 170,which later to my great surprise parked over in the Horizon airlines Maintainance area...There was a large group of people there checking over the plane for about an hour before it's departure. Does Horizon Airlines plan to purchaise and enhance their fleet with the Embraer 170? It would look great in Horizon's colors!

It would look stunning. They must be planning to order some. I wonder if any of them are going to fly for F9? I know the CR7 situation is really tight.

I've gotten very curious about F9 & QX since they just started sharing gates with Delta at LIT. LIT is my home and its nice to see a new airline come to town.

The Frontier contract with Horizon calls for a fleet of 9 CR7's and up to 20 - if Frontier wants that many.
In order to supply the original 9, Horizon had to pull some CR7's from it's own routes - and even now, I believe that 1 of the 9 Frontier Jet Express aircraft will also sub for Horizon flights - or it did.
Horizon has a few more CR7's on order but not enough to let both Horizon and Frontier Jet Express expand.
So - Horizon could probably use some more aircraft for itself, and certainly if Frontier wants to expand Jet Express, then Horizon would have to find some more aircraft.
In which case, the EMB170 might make a lot of sense. If Horizon wanted to keep it for their own flights, it might free up some CR7's for Frontier.
OR - because Horizon gets paid all costs plus a profit margin by Frontier - a couple of them in the Jet Express fleet would be making money (for Horizon) from Day 1.

It's not uncommon for manufacturers to show off their demo aircraft to different companies - even if those companies aren't really in the market to buy any.
Ask why..

Kohlflot..That's what I was thinking when I saw the Embraer 170 parked there with the big reception of people checking it over..But the last 3 prototype that I've seen parked in the maintainance in the past, have all ended up being in Horizon's fleet....

I've heard the CR7 hasn't exactly been a stellar performer, so looking at the EMB-170 wouldn't surprise me.
And after the Do-328 fiasco, we know QX isn't above backtracking from a fleet type that doesn't work out.

Interesting. I would say it's way too early to say Horizon is "planning to order some", NW7E7. But it does appear they are interested in seeing what the plane has to offer. It would probably fit in very well with QX's current business plan.

Anyone get any pictures of this visit. Its been rumored for weeks at QX, but I tend not to believe anything until it actually happens.

Any Horizon A.netters who can comment on this? I thought they were doing reasonably well after some initial teething problems. Bad news for Bombardier if this one is a lemon.

I am curious too. I heard that the CR7 was having trouble in hot weather.... but Mesa flies them into PHX all the time. And what about that Dornier "fiasco" ?? What did happen with that?
The Embraer jets are really nice. I never had a chance to fly on one until a month ago. I've been on the CRJ700 many times. I like them both, but I might opt for the Embraer just because of the bigger window and what seemed to be a more comfortable seat. Mind you, I'm only 5'6" tall and rarely feel cramped in any plane.
