Delta MD11 Mirabel-Goodyear Today?

Wed Nov 03, 2004 6:16 am

There's a Delta Airlines 9900 flight in the air right now from YMX to GYR. It's an MD11. Any idea whether this is the MD11 passenger ship that World leased today from Delta? Is it going to Timco for work? Or is this just a coincidence and it is one of the ships being converted to a freighter? (Mirabel is where Delta had a few MD11s stored earlier this year.)

Best,

Bill

Bill,
You are correct in your assumtion. That is N801DE which will be worked on at GYR until the latter part of the month when it ferries back to ATL. We won't see the ships going for conversion until early next year. We don't expect them in our fleet until April or May.

Ed,

Interesting comment about conversions next year, does World have some MD-11's that they plan on converting to freighters?

I wonder who is flying them. The Delta MD-11 pilots are out of currency at this point on the MD-11. Is it World pilots flying the ferry flight?

Skibum:

As long as DL has the A/C in flying condition, I would imagine they would keep some pilots (maybe only 5 or 6 ) current on the a/c with the very thought in mind of positioning for sale.

Can you be kept current in simulation?

801 was flown by DL pilots. WO cannot operate the a/c until it is officially on our ops specs. Ecpect that to happen around 05 Dec.

Vikingair,
No we are not considering the conversion of any of our pax a/c at this time. We are however looking for a third freighter to come along possibly as early as April.

An earlier thread pointed out that World will be using 801 for PAX service. They will need it...

Both of them are coming from Korean Air and need to be converted.
