Can anyone shed more light on the subject? It seems to be very limited. Possibly to prevent pissing off AA?

My guess is there is something in the agreement between QF and AA that prohibits QF from codesharing with other airlines on routes that are also operated by AA. The reason why LAX-PHX and LAX-YEA are the two markets selected is that AA does not currently fly these.

HP also codeshares with BA out of Phoenix, and BA is a OneWorld partner like QF. Since AA's traffic to PHX is limited to O&D, it would not seem to me to a problem for HP to codeshare these routes.

The same is true for the BA codeshare. Since the gateway city is PHX and AA does not operate nonstop service from any of the codeshare airports (ABQ, BUR, LAS, LGB, OAK, ONT, SNA, SJC, and TUS) to PHX, they're ok for the codeshare.

So if AA one day decided to operate PHX-?, would that force BA to drop their codeshare with HP, or do preexisting codeshares get to stay?

I'm also wondering why there's no way to earn miles. I can earn HP miles on any BA flight. Could HP and QF be testing the waters before jumping in completely?
