North American To Hawaii

Wed Nov 10, 2004 6:02 am

My dean at my school has decided to take his vacation early and has headed off to Hawaii on North American Airlines. I didn't know that they operated out of SFO or OAK into Hawaii. He left b/c the ticket price was $200. I don't know the exact details but I do not know of them operating routes there from California.

Thanks again for clarification/help.

North American would be operating charters on behalf of a tour operator. They don't have any scheduled service that I'm aware of.

Just a quick question...can someone tell me who the heck North American Airlines is?

Only in recent history have I seen posts about their charter services.

But the ad that was in the paper was under their name. I'll scan it and show it to you guys when I get home.

Thanks again.

these are flights for SunTrips, which used to run their own DC-10's to Hawaii, but that ended a couple of years ago.

NAA was created 15 years ago to act as connector service for EL AL, from JFK to LAX.

If you look at our website, you'll see that we also fly to a number of destinations. But if you want to book a reservation you would be directed to the tour operator's site.

North American started out with a single 757 based at JFK. They are owned by a Mr. Dan McKinnon and started service solely to feed ElAl at JFK and MIA. They grew into a small charter outfit by adding additional 75's and then some 73NG's. They were on our AMC "team" for the past 2 years and so well that they went up to a 767. This year however, it's a different story. They are not on any AMC team, so they have very little entitlement to any AMC business. ElAl dumped them several years ago ands they're out there trying to scrape up any business they can find. Had some good friends over there and wish them luck.

North American's service from Oakland to Hawai'i (HNL and OGG) is scheduled, not charter, and bookable through any public reservation system.

I believe George W. Bush leased a North American 757 for his campaign in 2000.

North American flies from OAK to the Hawaiian Islands which they operate on behalf of Suntrips. The previous operator for Suntrips was Ryan, which operated DC-10s. I can't say anything about North American, but the Ryan DC-10 was the pure definition of cattle car and discount airfare. You can see why they charged bargain basement fares. It was a very long and very cramped 5 hours flight to Honolulu, which had to make a stop in Lihue.

I believe North American is applying for a route from Oakland to Japan. Not sure if this means they will be doing another charter or going on their own.

I flew Suntrips back in 2000 to Maui. The route was SFO-OGG and then OGG-HNL-SFO for the return. The equipment was DC-10.

I flew North American on an AMC charter from Norfolk to Naples, Italy. I was actually quite impressed. We got a pretty decent meal on all three legs and the cabin was clean and comfortable.

Don't forget about the MD-80 that came on board before the 738's. Sadly, both are no longer with NA.

North American Airlines started flying from OAK to HNL, OGG, Kona and is slated to start scheduled service to MEX and CUN from OAK. But I don't know if they are in the OAG.

Not sure if they are listed in the OAG but the OAK-OGG service is listed in Sabre.

North American's OAK-Hawaii service started as a SunTrips charter. Just a few weeks ago they started selling it directly as well, with a $99 one way introductory fare.

The North American color scheme was the best looking scheme that I have ever seen on an MD80. I like it in general (on the 757 and the 767), but I have to say that I haven't seen an MD80 look better than with that livery.

All the best,

Bill

I do know that they'll start serving KOA from OAK sometime next year. They have a charter every now and then but this will be the first scheduled service KOA has seen. It looks as if it will only be a once a week flight (Sunday) and will be served by a 757.

North American Airlines is the best charter airline in the world with the best service on board. NA has schedule charters from JFK to (BQN) Aguadilla Puerto Rico using 757 and sometimes 767.

North American Airlines started scheduled service out of Oakland to Hawaii this month. I believe Mexico service will be starting next month. The Suntrips charter is over, so all flights are operated and sold by North American Airlines as a scheduled service. Flights can be booked directly from their website at www.northameicanair.com, travelocity, expedia or just going to your local travel agent.

Are you sure about that? According to the Suntrips website, North American is still a provider for Suntrips. I guess North American just doesn't have to solely rely on Suntrips for passengers.
