AA 777 At PHX Right Now!

Sun Dec 05, 2004 7:45 am

There is currently an American 777 sitting at T3 Gate 5 at PHX. Does anyone know why it is here? I don't have a reg. Does anyone have that? I believe this the first AA 777 visit to the Valley of the Sun!

I do not know why it is there but my flight tracker shows it going to DFW at 3:30 as AAL2446.

Too bad it's a lousy day for photographs. Still, I wish I had brought the camera.

Could it have been a charter for a sports game?

The Dallas Stars are playing in Phoenix tonight so that is my guess.

It appears that this is regular revenue flight LAX-DFW. It already departed PHX and descending to DFW so my guess is medical emergency.

I was there and got a few photos. Was a medical diversion, judging by the ambulances that showed up, and its quick departure afterward. Reg was N752AN

Here are 3 of the photos I got.

The Dallas Stars are not playing anywhere right now. The NHL is locked out. The Dallas Mavericks basketball team own their own 757, so that is what would fly in.

Yeah, I just got lucky. I spent most of the day down there. The weather was really horrible. Around 4 o' clock the visibility was about 2 miles, and the ceiling couldnt have been more than 300 ft or so. I was just about to leave when I saw the 777 land unexpectedly, which gave me the needed reason to sit in the rain for another 2 hours.

Hey VS,

I have a few spots around the airport that I use, dependant on the winds, weather, traffic, etc...

My main spots are:
-The top of the terminal 2 garage (where I took the AA777 photos, good for takeoff shots)
-The top of the terminal 4 garage (good for HP and WN ramp operation shots)
-The Cutter Aviation observation deck (mainly good for watching business jets and 7R/7L landing views. Just dont take photos. I've been told to leave after they noticed me taking photos.)
-The little observation area outside the fence near the arrival end of 26 (just north). They have a little 7 or 8 parking space lot just for that usage.
-The overflow/holiday parking lot about 1/4 off the extended centerline of the arrival end RWY 8. Nice to use if you just want to sit and have airliners blast over your head while you're eating lunch. You cant actually get into the parking lot (its not free, and they have gates) , but there are a few business use parking spots free just inside before the gates. You're not supposed to use them, but theres never anyone in that parking lot so no one ever knows you're there anyway.

I'd be happy to answer any more questions!

And those photos I took were with a Canon D60 (300mm lens), which is what Im usually with when I'm spotting. The quality looks horrid on the examples you saw, which is a combination of the horrible lighting, the rain, the really bad compression saving the photos that size, and the fact that I left the ISO way too high on accident and you can see the resulting grain. Oh well, thats life.

This is probably the best picture I shot the whole day. AA 757 on rotation with a little 777 tail in the mix.

Beefmoney

Thanks for that, I'm looking even more forward to my trip out there in FEB now. Last time I was there I walked across the dried out river (I think thats what it was) to get some pics which didnt come out half bad, but it was one hell of a walk. Hopefully I can get some better ones now I know where to go.

Cheers

Yeah, you're talking about a spotting area I used to go to a lot last year. Its a (or was) a dirt mound area on the south side of the dry river basin (whereas the airport is on the north side of the basin). Its not half bad for stuff landing on 25L/25R, but I quit going there just because it takes a little effort to get to, and when its a million degrees outside its less than pleasant to be down in the desert river bottom.  Smile

Was on that flight was not aware of what actually happened. I was up in the F/C cabin and was asleep until I was notified to put my chair in teh upright position. I saw the ambulances and all of that just barely. It was very confusing. Well I am going to go see if i can see myself in the photos.

AAplatnumflier,

What did the captain tell you? Did he make any announcements after you were awoken by the FA? And how long were you on the ground?

You got solidly asleep in the 25 minutes between top of climb from LAX and finals to PHX?

Out of the window I was looking out of....none. There was just a bunch of comotion once we got on the ground. A couple of people that looked like EMT's came on. Pilot said something to the nature of sorry for the short delay folks there was just a person on board who seeked immediate medical attention..... blah blah blah..... he kept thanking us for choosing AA and he kept apologizing. I was also tired as I had recieved no sleep that night and the seat wasnt that bad so i just fell asleep. Including taxiing I dont know to be honest with you maybe a half hour from landing to takeoff. It seemed like forever though.

I'm thinking the NHL is locked out and no season in playing now. Also does not Tom Hicks, have a private jet for his Stars and Rangers?

Was on that flight was not aware of what actually happened.

Right....I don't believe that as much as anything. Your posts are somewhat hard to believe and fathom.

Also looks like EMS is coming though the F/C cabin and you state you didnt know what was happening and you were asleep..........Total BS!

Boeingfever you are correct! He has a 727-200 for his teams it has been sitting since baseball season ended in September at Dallas Love. The registration is 698SS. Hopefully the NHL will get a contract soon but this plane will probably not see any action until baseball starts again.

Fly safe!

I am not B.S.ing. There was an EMT that came running through the cabin and then he assisted someone out. It was a very confusing situation. I was really on that flight. I will even try and take a picture of the ticket that I had and post it on here to proove it to you. I am just not good at describing events. I was a 13 year old kid traveling with my dad to DFW for the night.

As far as trying to confirm what AAplatnumflier said, there was indeed an EMT or 2 that I saw go up the airstairs into the the aircraft, and escort a person out. You can see that person in the 2nd photo I linked to, near the bottom of the stairs being helped by a firefighter. It also looked like they took out 1 or 2 other passengers and their bags. Might have been friends or relatives, as they got into the ambulance with the person being assisted. And there was only 1 ambulance that ever arrived, the one in the photo.

What I am saying totally goes with what Beefmoney is saying so I am not lying. I was also on the opposite side of the plane and I had no way of talking to the pilot.

Alright, alright, I think you've all beaten AAPlatinumflier enough.

If he's lying, he has to deal with that himself, and its not anyone else's place to make sure he's punished for it.

Personally, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt here. I dont see any real reason that just screams that he's making it all up. I think theres a fair enough chance that he's being honest.

Again, If he fooled me, and he wasn't actually on the plane, oh well, thats not my problem. There are more important things in life to debate and sulk over (and probably ANY topic would be more worth our while).

...Anybody up for tennis?
