Cathay Divert To ANC.Any Info?
I was just at the Anchorage airport and noticed a CX airplane parked at the international terminal.And passengers were arriving by bus to check in for this flight.Does anyone know where the flight diverted from? What was the route? What was the reason?

CX828/829 is going thru ANC again effective Dec 2004.

ANC is right. CX operates is HKG-YYZ flight via ANC. I imagine that is the flight you saw. A343, correct?

But if its just a transit flight how come there were groups of passengers arriving on charter buses? And airline staff were escorting them through security?

I think that one CX828 - HKG-ANC (tech stop)-YYZ went tech while on the ground in ANC.
So it wasn't so much a diversion, as a longer-than-expected stop.

They re-routed the HKG-YVR-YYZ flight to HKG-ANC-YYZ
That would seem odd though since ANC is US. They are going through an additional country to do the flight? Why not go through YVR since its Canada? But being bused is strange. I thought it was only for re-fueling so the pax stayed onboard?

CX aircraft in ANC are just a technical-stop, passenger changes is not allowed. What I think you saw the passengers travelling bus to/from terminal are just let the passengers took a rest in terminal rather in the aircraft. Usually the technical-stop takes an hour.

The people the OP saw being bussed were probably the pax being ferried back from their hotels for resumption of the ANC-YYZ leg of the delayed journey.
